On September 14th I will be a grandmother for the sixth time!
Quincy my newest granddaughter is due to arrive sometime that day and I am on pins and needles with excitement. I have the honor of caring for three of the older children and my two other grandchildren for a kid fest at grandma's house, while Mom and Dad go off to the hospital to welcome Quincy to the world. This will be the first time I will not be there to hold a grandchild just after birth. :--(
To comfort myself and make it fun, I collected my top 10 favorite children's car books to share with them in hopes of creating a car crazy grandchild to follow in my passions!

We adore the Richard Scarry
We adore the Richard Scarry book! And any cars books, really, so thanks for the recs!
Your Pop Culture Librarian also writes almost daily at I, Asshole.
The apple car was always my favorite
Jody, what a beautiful post - thank you so much!
Richard Scarry has been a mainstay of my life -- as a child and as a parent. When I had my son, my father made a series of wooden toy cars for him based on Scarry's wonderful illustrations. Somewhere he found wooden fruits and vegetables, drilled holes and attached little wooden dowel-axles and wheels. We have an apple car, a bananamobile, a pumpkin car and an eggplant car.
I tried to get my son to share them with my niece (also Quincy!) when she arrived, but he put them away. "She can read the book, Mom, but I don't want her chewing on Grandpa's cars...."
Congratulations on the new addition to your family -- a very lucky baby indeed.
