The dreaded party dress dilemma is an annual occurrence for many of us women with curves. That pivotal moment when you realize your social calendar is overflowing with fetes -- from office parties to family shindigs and at-home soirees –- and you have absolutely nothing to wear? The worst. Every fashionista, curvy and straight-sized, deserves a holiday look of the perfect color, silhouette and price tag. Thankfully, there are some tried & true staples for every occasion that work for a range of body types. PLUS, these are all classic, so they can be recycled for other festive occasions! Here are some of our favorite picks for every chic party this winter:
The Corporate Office Party
The Black Shift: When all else fails, call on this staple. You can never go wrong with a little black dress! The beauty of this matte jersey belted number is its versatility. You can keep it classic and unbelted or switch it up and add a belt in to flatter your midsection. If you’re real adventurous, add a festive spin with a glitter or metallic belt.
The Metallic Peplum: What makes this dress special is the subtle detailing. The peplum silhouette is ultra flattering, and the metallic material and mesh on the shoulder give it a sophisticated sex appeal.
The V-Neck: This is a great one for double duty. Dress it corporate with a blazer and pumps or dress it up with glitter stilettos and a statement necklace for a night on the town. It’s a great color, a flattering silhouette for the top-heavy with it’s v-neck shape, and it’s a great price point.
The At-Home Soiree
The Wrap Dress: This is an interesting twist on the classic wrap silhouette. The mesh detailing on the shoulder leaves a little to the imagination, while the rouching at the waist flatters pear-shaped curvy girls with ease.
The A-Line Chiffon: Chiffon is a luxurious material for a holiday dress. It flows seamlessly and is ultra forgiving. Chow down on as many mini pastries as you’d like in this dress. No one will know!
The Studded Shift: Studded detailing gives a bit of edge to an otherwise sweet silhouette. This is a great dress for those more self-conscious about their arms. Having a sheer fabric that grazes over the arms offers coverage but still has an allure.
The Animal Print: It won’t be hard to turn heads in this attention-grabbing animal printed number. It has subtle pleating, beaded detailing and it hugs your curves in all the right places.
The New Year’s Eve Shindig
The Sweetheart Peplum Illusion: The beauty of this peplum silhouette is that it’s super flattering, especially for women with hips. It offers just the right amount of curve-skimming coverage, but its sweetheart neckline still screams “fierce!”
The Jumpsuit: Unexpected but super chic, a sequined jumpsuit offers a little extra coverage for those who want their legs covered but still want a little holiday cheer up top.
The Gold Standard: Nothing is more glamorous than a touch of gold. New Year’s Eve is all about all-sequins-everything and this Monif C piece fits the bill. With a body-conscious silhouette and all-over sequins, this number is not for the faint of heart.
