Was your New Years resolution to lose weight or get in better shape?

Here are 10 random tips to help you along.

1) If you have sweets in the house that are too tempting Carmen says to throw them away.

2) Go dancing.

3) This might sound strange but buy pre-sliced apples. It works for Skinnify and it works for me too. For some reason if I buy an apple I will never touch it and it will rot in my fruit basket, but if I buy the slices I will eat them and it seems like I am eating candy or chips.

4) For those of us that have more than just 5 or 10 pounds to lose we can start by just moving around more. The Angry Fat Girlz have lots of great advice.

5) Fat Girl Camp tells you how to score a free copy of "The Five Keys to Wellness" by Kelly Mather.

6) 30 minutes of exercise a day.

7) The ladies at Big Fat Deal found a magic formula.

8) JoLynn Braley gives us five tips on weight loss that are so easy your cat could do them. ( i guess this brings my list up to 14 tips, but whatever.)

9) Interval Workouts. I've never heard of them before, but Anne-Marie says they work.

10) If all else fails you can try prayer. Don't go crazy, I'm an Atheist, pray to Our Lady of Lards.

Deb, this is interesting, because while I normally choose low-glycemic foods very faithfully to fit my South Beach Diet way of eating, once every five weeks when I get my hair colored I allow myself to eat anything I want on the way home, since it's a late night after work for me and I'm starving when I get out of there. What do I usually eat? Either pepperoni pizza or a bacon cheeseburger, sometimes even with fries, although I can usually resist the fries.

I guess my weight loss tip would be to learn about the glycemic index (a measure of how quickly foods turn into glucose in your blood) and use it to make food choices. You don't have to do a full-out low glycemic diet like South Beach or one of the many others. I think if you cut down on sugar, potatoes, white bread, and white-flour pasta you could lose weight without doing anything else. And one of the best things about the glycemic index is how it eliminates the cravings for those kinds of starchy foods. You can still eat plenty of healthy "good carbs" like 100% whole wheat bread or dried beans. I am completely sold on the glycemic index as a guide to what to eat.

In truth, I seldom crave the really unhealthy foods anymore (my weaknesses: donuts and Kentucky Fried Chicken). But I cannot yet imagine saying " I will never eat a KFC 2 pc. pack again in the life. Or eat or a donut."

So i schedule these items with occasional and emotionally neutral activites. They are not a reward; they are merely allowed to be concurrent activities. So any day I have fasting blood draw is a day I may have a donut. And any time I have the oil changed in my car, I can stop at KFC.

Last week's blood draw and I no interest in the donut; we'll see how I feel when I get my oiled changed next month.

My tip for those velcro pounds? Go flexitarian. Worked for me.

Ah, I need tips for the last 5-10 pounds. They are tenacious, like the velcro.

Also, I am a cheap-o, so I bought an apple corer and an apple slicers. Takes care of the apple problem in about ten seconds! I like munching whole apples, but my kids do not.

As far as junk food in the house, I keep a little around. I find I do okay if my fella has stuff I don't like around, like black licorice, YUCK. I also make myself walk to "earn" things. I will walk to a restaurant and have a sundae or a gooey cheeseburger, and only do it a couple times a month. I try to "trade" exercise for junk when I can. I know this is hard if you have nothing nearby.

Intuitive eating is as simple as it sounds - eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full. It is a book - and it has helped me tremendously. I now- am actually able to have all the sweets around that I want, where before they would be gone the instant I bought them. So, if you just listen to your body and eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full- no matter what you eat- you will be able to lose weight. It explains it in the book a lot better:)
