Ready to play? Here is The $100 Question for Friday, May 7th:
Do you accept friend requests from your parents on Facebook?
When I saw the request, my heart sank: "Your sister wants to be friends with you on Facebook."
I love my sister. She is my best friend. The fear I felt in my heart when I saw that request wasn't about my sister. It was about the fact that my mom is one of my sister's Facebook friends. And if I accepted that friend request, my profile would show up on her friends list, and it would just be a matter of time before I got a notification that my mom wanted to be friends with me on Facebook.
There was no way I could ignore the request from my sister. So I did what any grown woman who didn't want her mom to friend her on Facebook (where she would find the picture of that *ONE TIME* where you thought it would be funny to use your cleavage as a placeholder for your shot glass.)
I blocked my Mom on Facebook.
I felt guilty (and paranoid) about what I had done.
Not guilty enough to remove her from my block list, but guilty enough to create a new Facebook account. A Family Only Facebook account. One where I would accept friend requests from my mom and not worry about being judged or scolded on my profile page for all to see. One where I wouldn't have to worry about angry or concerned phone calls after I update my status with things like "Suck on THIS, MONDAY!" (Because I never update there. Like, ever.)
So tell me: Have you accepted, or would you accept Facebook friend requests from your mom (or dad) on Facebook?
