On campouts or hosting parties, disposible dinner ware would be so much faster. I hate using it though!

I don't really consider it a sacrifice, but I compost my peelings and grass clippings to use as fertilizer on my vegetable garden.

I am fixing to give up living in the city my hubby just graduated as a wind tech so he could have a green career, and most all of the jobs are in town of populations of 2000 or less.

is not using paper towels. We use rags and cloth napkins instead.
I've experimented with biking to work, but I have overactive sweat glands (lol) so it was impossible for me to arrive without looking like a disheveled mess. Not very professional, I assure you.
Carpooling didn't work out either, because we all leave at different times depnding on our workload, and nobody likes waiting around when their shift is over.
For our family, reducing waste at home is the best policy.

Storing cans and bottles takes up space and extra time, but I always recycle what I can.

But it is worth it. I get my veggies from a local organic farm - a little pricier, but better food and less strain on the environment.

ccboobooy 5 pts

I don't really sacrifice too much.

That's a tough one cause it's not a sacrifice to me if I'm doing something to be green! I guess one thing could be that I don't have a nice, green lawn cause I don't want to waste the water on it...

It's easier to impulse shop and leave the store with plastic bags, but it isn't hard to keep a few canvas bags in the car.
It takes a little time to recycle but a few minutes isn't going to make a big difference in my day.
All in all, giving up just a little is well worth it.

Those who said they are using time and washing dishes by hand -- filling up a full load in the dishwasher uses a lot less water and energy than hand-washing. Better to use a dishwasher (especially if it's an Energy Star rated appliance.)

sweetypieinsc 5 pts

I sacrifice my love of the smell of bleach to be green..sometimes I feel that being green isn't nearly as clean smelling.

JeanineMB 5 pts

The only thing it really costs me is time -- sorting out the recycling, planning car trips to cut down, looking for products which use less packaging and recyclable materials.

Amy

I sacrifice a few extra minutes each day to wash all of our dishes by hand instead of using our dishwasher. One load of dishes can take over an hour to wash- to me that's a waste of power and water.

susan1215 5 pts

Nothing major just a little bit of time to sort the garbage, clean pop cans and compost

happishopr 5 pts

I haven't found anything lacking in being green.

clynsg 5 pts

Some time and extra effort--we don't have curbside recycling and in fact the local centers don't even take everything that can be recycled.

bmcnichol 5 pts

I sacrifice in many ways to be green.

Kendyl 5 pts

OK, thought of another one. :-) Green products definitely cost more, but it feels like a worthwhile investment. Obviously, or I wouldn't be making it! :-)

Kendyl 5 pts

I was tempted to say I really don't feel like I sacrifice anything to be green, but I guess that's not true. I spend time washing my cloth diapers, separating out recyclables and taking them to the curb, using public transportation instead of driving... That said, it feels so "normal" to me now, that I really don't think of it at all, let alone as a sacrifice.

dddiva 5 pts

It takes longer when you use less packaging- you have to use then wash reusable containers etc but I guess that is one thing (most of the time) that I sacrifice.

Atreau 5 pts

I've given up pre-packaged bottled water and use my reusable stainless steel water bottle. It isn't always convenient but it makes me feel like I'm making a difference.

yadgirl 5 pts

I don't sacrifice much. I turn out any lights I don't need and use cool water instead of warm to wash my clothes. I don't drive or smoke.

Living in a desert - It is just not right to have a green landscape.

the use of as many lights on that I would like to really have on

bwsmom 5 pts

... at least not in my eyes. I've been recycling since the 70's and have made other adjustments to my life in an effort to be more "green," but I can't think of anything that I'd truly consider a sacrifice.

Many thanks!

is not having a car of my own. Hubby and I share one vehicle. We work a few blocks from each other, so it's usually not a big hassle, but every once in a while, a second car would be nice to have.
