Who looks better as they age?

July 20, 2010 - 8:06am

In general I would have to say men, but let me tell you why - they're allowed to. I've seen many males with as many wrinkles and gray hairs as older woman, but somehow it's seen as "distinguished", even "sexy".
George Clooney's dashes of gray hair in the past few years have only added to his appeal, while woman over 45 like Andy McDowell, though beautiful, are actually endorsing products (L'Oreal) that hide gray hair.
We need to celebrate older woman who have the nerve to look their age.

Women

July 20, 2010 - 8:17am

Yes, there are the George Clooneys of the world, but most men don't go that route. The beauty of being a woman is that we have permission from society to change our look. We can cover gray, or decide to go wild with platinum or plum! We can wear makeup, colorful sunglasses, rouched waistbands and fun belts to hide our midsection, scarves to hide our collarbone or fabulous necklaces to highlight it. We have the ability to transform our appearance along with the different stages of our life. It's not about covering up to look younger, but adjusting our appearance to properly reflect our adjusting selves. Ah poor men, they are stuck with polos and oxfords... :)

definitely men.

July 20, 2010 - 9:01am

definitely men.

As a generalization...

July 20, 2010 - 9:01am

men. But it may be they're more comfortable with the aging process.

Men

July 20, 2010 - 9:03am

Men seem to age better.

I think men look more

July 20, 2010 - 9:14am

I think men look more sophisticated as they age.

Men look better and more

July 20, 2010 - 9:20am

Men look better and more distinguished as they age...sorry ladies.

distinguished

July 20, 2010 - 9:41am

Older men are considered "distinguished" while women just get "old".

We live longer so we still win.

Are you kidding? Hands down - women!

July 20, 2010 - 9:52am

Come on, my friends!! Haven't you gone to a high school or college reunion and wondered about this? I'm telling you, there's NO doubt in my mind that the women do much MUCH better over time. The men only have so many ways to go, but women - well, I think we are full of surprises. Filling out, even a bit, means we're more voluptuous. Men just get beer bellies and bald. We can do all kinds of things to our hair, with our clothes - we have a lot more options than men in terms of camouflage. In my experience, I also feel like we get so much more comfortable with ourselves as we age - and so our confidence, achievements and ease make us even more attractive. I'm not just saying this - I've totally experienced this.

Hands down - women age better than men. :)

I think that men and women

July 20, 2010 - 9:57am

I think that men and women probably age equally well but society has decided that men are distinguished and women just look old! Not fair, but that is just the way it is.

Men

July 20, 2010 - 9:58am

Because men are just natural, naturally. Women tend to use artificial means to trick the eye into thinking we are younger than we are, and I'm sorry but that just exacerbates the problem. Be proud of your age!

Depends

July 20, 2010 - 9:59am

I think it depends on the individual. You're only as young as you feel!

Men!

July 20, 2010 - 10:00am

My husband is more handsome now than ever

definitely men.

July 20, 2010 - 10:07am

definitely men.

Aging

July 20, 2010 - 10:21am

I don't think it matters if you are a woman or a man when aging. It just depends on your facial structure and face character. I have seen both men and women age graciously.

Not a question of gender

July 20, 2010 - 10:31am

You can find examples of people who age well or poorly from both male and female groups. Here's some things that will age you whether guy or gal:

sun
smoking/drugs/alcohol
poor diet
little exercise
stress

I hope I am able to age gracefully! :)

Aging?

July 20, 2010 - 10:50am

I think women do; we're usually much better about skincare and coloring our gray. My husband always comments that it looks like he's my father when we go out. I happen to like his balding, gray hair but he feels self-conscious about it. While I have gray, I spend the money every few months to get it highlighted so it doesn't show.

Silver sirens...not so much

July 20, 2010 - 11:32am

Sadly, I'm in the men-age-better camp, for the same reasons as some of the other posters: men are allowed to age, while women who age become crones. Not that being a crone is a bad thing--but societally speaking, men with grey hair are distinguished, and women with grey hair have "let themselves go".

That said, I'm not covering my grey. Partly because my husband loves it, but mostly because I have thick, curly hair that would cost a fortune to dye every 5 weeks (my hair grows fast).

All the men in my life

July 20, 2010 - 11:47am

All the men I have ever known seem to age better than the woman I know. Part of that is society and the way things are viewed. Men are allowed to go gray and have a few wrinkles, it makes them "distinguished" Woman are expected to not go gray and use every product available to keep wrinkles at bay.

Everyone looks beautiful as

July 20, 2010 - 11:49am

Everyone looks beautiful as they age. We've just created a make-up (made-up) world for women, so people are surprised how nature is supposed to look, as women age.

One Friday night, I loaded up my life and headed out...

Re: Men

July 20, 2010 - 11:50am

Men definitely look better-think more distinguished as they age.

Men

July 20, 2010 - 12:55pm

They look more distinquished with age.

Men for sure

July 20, 2010 - 12:59pm

Men age better than woman. They get more distinguished looking in my opinion.

like everything else, it depends on the individual

July 20, 2010 - 1:19pm

Seriously. If you take care of yourself, you're more likely to age gracefully. I do believe men get off the hook easier with being distinguished silver foxes. Women's bodies are put through the ringer a bit more with child birth and menopause... but I stick it's case by case basis.

Aging

July 20, 2010 - 1:21pm

While gray hair is a real plus for aging men and how they are perceived as looking charming and distinguised, I have to say that I think women age better. For some reason, mens featured seem sharper and a little more rigid as they age. Women on the other hand tend have faces which become softer and gentler which to me is sexy in its own way. To me a man or woman, who accepts aging gracefully and stand tall and proud at being the age they are is the person who ages best.

I'd say it depends. Blog:
