The $100 Question: Why Did You Start Blogging?

I started blogging to enter a contest.

so that I could share my love of reptiles.

I started blogging because I think we do really cool things with our kids on a very small budget, and wanted to share that with other people.

I've fallen out of blogging as my work schedule has gotten out of hand.

We're still doing awesome things, I just can either sit & write, or get outside. Maybe when the weather changes again.

I actually just started my first blog last night! Once my husband gets back from his deployment I'll be moving to Hawaii. I figured a blog would be the best way to let my friends and family know what I'm up to!

I don't have my own blog but I enjoy reading others and have learned a lot of things from them. Thank you!

The Grand Prize Winner of Independence Ohio. The main character helps her family financially by entering contests. My family has really been struggling and I realized that I could do that...and so I began.

to just put down my thoughts and ideas of being an advanced maternal age momma. It has kind of taken off from there, and it still keeps me going.

Baby sis and I started our blog to help raise awareness and money for a cure for colon cancer in daddy's honor. We're running for a cure in the Undy 5000 - Dallas in October. Go Chisum's Crew!

don't really write on it. I have buttons to places I like to go back and read. I really would love to start blogging but there aren't enough hours in the day with everything else I have going on.

Everyone was wanting to hear about our Disney trip and see pics and it was easier to do all in one place - trying to email pics or put them on the various forums was too much work.

I don't blog...but read a bunch.
However, I write in a journal almost daily.

I started blogging because I saw so many other blogs out there and wanted to see if I could do it myself. I continue to blog because it is a creative outlet and also a good way to make some extra money on the side.

I started blogging to release tension and to gain new perspectives and ideas!

I started blogging because I've always thought I should keep a journal, and blogging seemed like a good way to do that. I still haven't gotten in the habit of blogging every day. I have used it to vent about things, to make comment on society, and to enter giveaways.

blogging because of a contest? I saw a great contest where I could win FOUR computers. I had to post a blog about why I should win. I included video and photos and the next thing you know, I won. I know, it's crazy

I began my first blog in 2003 to share travel stories and essays with friends and family scattered across the country. A year later, I attended a travel writing workshop and the attendees looked at me as though I had three eyes when I told them what a blog was and that I kept one. My initial blog faded away.

2005 was a turning point in my life: I was newly divorced, in a transient living situation and unhappy with my life because I had forgotten who I was. I began a new blog to express feelings and thoughts, life observations and prove to myself what I had to say, no matter how trivial, was important and that I am important. I have since branched out to a travel-specific blog to share experiences of my adventures.

I thought it was the "trendy" thing to do. I find myself posting on others blogs more than I actually post on my own.

I started blogging because i wanted to find people with my love for deals!

I started blogging to try and keep a journal of our "goings on". I also wanted to write my experiences with a son with special needs and a daughter with a chronic illness.

I discovered an approach to fitness that was right for me, and I wanted to help others.

I was reading "Waiting for Daisy" and was enchanted, so I did what anyone does these days when sparked -- I googled it.

The top entry was for an upcoming online book tour in the infertility community. All you needed was a book and a blog.

I started blogging and making my own websites around 11 years old ... so at that age, what drove me to blog was just the daily frustrations of being a pre-teen!

Suddenly, it's like people who could never have their voices heard can attract readers from all over! Pretty amazing, if you think about it!

I was laid off from a marketing position with a homebuilder. I did the Sally Homemaker bit for awhile but then started to feel lonely and disconnected. I looked online for mom's groups in my area and came across a few blogs. I started reading and commenting then thought, "if they can do this I can to." I threw up my first post almost three years ago and haven't looked back. D

I've started many blogs for many reasons! Sadly, I've never been able to keep up with any of them. I've started a couple just for keeping track of daily life, and I've started a few that were project-specific. I do very well with them for a while, then I just lapse into apathy and stop keeping up. A year later, I'll get the blogging bug again and start a new blog. I don't know that I'll ever be able to keep up!

My boss at the time wanted me to learn how to develop an ExpressionEngine site, so he told me to make a blog for myself.

While I wasn't intimidated at the thought of learning a new development tool, I was extremely nervous about blogging and "putting myself out there."

Almost three years later (yep, I was late to the blogging game), I can't imagine not blogging. It has become my medium for sharing information and educating people. It was the avenue that led to the publication of my first book. It is the place where I can be "me" online, and I can't imagine not doing it.

I started because it looked like fun. I used to have some personal pages on the web, but not a real blog. I find it IS fun and actually rather therapeutic to blog. Blogging about something not only gives me an opportunity to express myself, but also helps to clarify and organize my thoughts about the matter. And Sometimes I realize I was not aware about what I thought and felt about a topic until I wrote about it on my blog. I've also always enjoyed writing, so it gives me an excuse to spend time doing something I love.

I just read them.

Contests have gotten me interested in blogging.

I am blogging as a way to capture my kids memories, like an online baby book!

I think it was the urge to get my five cents worth into the conversation.

I had just been contacted by a son I lost to adoption, and was overwhelmed with emotion and horrific memories. I needed to vent someplace safe. The blog gave me that.

cause my nieces think i need to update my computer skills....did i do this right?

I started blogging to win, but now I am addicted to reading the blogs. So much great info and so many great people.

I don't blog but I love reading other people's blogs. I just like the community feeling of different sites.

In 2006 I had a family blog where I posted pictures of my children and after reading about a blogger having her photos lifted (without her consent) for an advertising campaign in Europe I stopped blogging.

I started up a blog this year for product reviews and giveaways. It's been fun.

i blog to get my feelings and opinions out there. reaching more people than just my close circle of friends. :)

Honestly, I only started a blog so I could enter bloggy giveaways. I still don't write much because I'm more of a "report" type writer. I can't make things sound interesting, but give me a stack of statistics and I can make an awesome detailed analysis.
