Has it been a year in Life Well Lived already? The other experts have shared some really great tips and links this month, and I’ve got a few to add to that list. Here are 12 lifestyle (fashion/beauty/food/DIY) resources that always keep me coming back for more.
Personal Style: I try to keep my style polished--you know, a set of pearls, a pencil skirt and a classic pair of slingbacks. I adore the blog 9 to 5 Chic because Anh's style is impeccable and one I seek to emulate. Karla’s Closet is another favorite resource for style inspiration. I can’t get enough of her short hair!
Food: As an avid amateur chef, I spend much of my time reading food blogs. One of my favorite places is The Kitchn, part of the Apartment Therapy family. They have loads and loads of daily cooking tips, recipes, product recommendations and more. Joy the Baker is a quirky blogger who always gets me excited with her gorgeous photos and mouth-watering recipes! Her podcast is really cool, too. Also Steamy Kitchen always provides me with new recipe ideas, as well. She includes lots of Asian recipes which add a great deal of variety to my mix.
DIY: When I’m looking for fun do-it-yourself projects, I like to check out Kyla Roma. Her site is always a breath of fresh air! She talks about cooking, design and inspiration, and she puts a huge amount of creative detail into her posts, which makes them even more exciting to look at. Kyla co-owns a boutique design company called Freckled Nest with her friend Leigh-Ann, who also has a really fun and creative blog by the same name.
Books: I haven’t jumped into a good book in a while, but whenever I get the chance, I tend to go back to favorites that really motivate me. "If You Have to Cry, Go Outside" by Kelly Cutrone is one that pushes me all the time. "Commander in Chic" by Mikki Taylor really helps me hone in on my personal style. (The book is the size of a tablet, so you can carry it around as you shop!) As a makeup lover, I adore any book written by the late legendary makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin, but if I had to pick just one, I'd go with "Making Faces" for its great step-by-step instructions. If you’re looking for video tutorials about makeup, check out my YouTube channel, Scandalous Beauty.
Beauty: Speaking of...I’ve been a beauty blogger for six years. My blog, Scandalous Beauty, focuses on makeup reviews, tutorials, swatches and tips. One of the features I'm most proud of is my Guide to Better (Beauty) Blogging. While I tried to keep my focus within the beauty niche, these 30-plus pages of tips work for virtually any type of blogging. For more inspiration, check me out on Pinterest as well. (I'm addicted!) My boards include fitness tips, beauty looks, outfit ideas and a trillion recipes.
Finally, I have a favorite way to keep track of all the sites I love to read: Bloglovin is a feedreader service that gives me an easy way to see all the sites I follow in a single, stylish format. Check it out!
