Sparkle (3)
Two is greater than three. Sure that’s not true if you’re talking about numbers, but I’m talking about letters. It feels great to have two letters behind my name now instead of three. That’s right folks: I’m officially a REGISTERED NURSE!!!
I took state boards last week & it wasn’t that bad – which was very different from 7 months ago when I took PN state boards. I went back & read my blog entries about taking that exam & had to laugh. I was a nervous wreck! This time I had some nervousness the night before, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as before.
I’m sure the fact that I had already gone through the process of taking boards helped me tremendously. I knew what to expect, where to go, what to bring with me, etc. I also knew that the worst part about the whole process is waiting for your results.
The funny thing is, this time I really didn’t sweat it. My exam cut off after the minimum of 75 questions & I walked out of there knowing that I passed. And it’s not like it was an easy test. It was probably the hardest exam I’ve taken so far, as it should be.
I took the exam on a Wednesday & I was hoping that the state licensing board would have my license number posted on Friday. It wasn’t there when I checked at 5:01pm on Friday so I knew I wouldn’t hear anything until Monday. I didn’t officially start to worry until 5:01pm Monday when I still didn’t have a license number. I started to think that maybe I hadn’t passed, maybe I totally bombed it.
I woke up early Tuesday morning & was on the licensing website before I even got out of bed. I typed in my name, held my breath, closed my eyes & hit the “Find” button. I slowly started to open one eye, fearful that I’d once again be disappointed. But there it was…a 6 digit number followed by the letters RN next to my name!!!
I jumped out of bed, called my parents & sobbed “I’m a Registered Nurse!!!” when my mom answered the phone. Accomplishing that achievement is one of the greatest feelings I have experienced…and I’m just getting started!
