2013 Running Goals

In 2011 and 2012 I selected a word for the year instead of making new year's resolutions - a motto of sorts to guide the way in which I wanted (and needed!) to grow.  I must admit that to this day I'm not a huge fan of new year's resolutions - I'm from the school of thought that believes that if you want change bad enough, you should take action and make it happen then and there.  No use in procrastinating until the beginning of a new week/month/year.

This year will be no different - except that my word for the year is not related to running in any way and therefore I won't be sharing it here.  There is, after all, (a lot) more to life than running, right ;) ?  I did, however, set myself four running goals for 2013, which I'm really excited to share with you:

1.  Complete an international race.  Yip, I'm still dreaming about running the world.  In 2012 I put my dream on hold to focus on Baby Girl and being a new mama, but I feel that she is now old enough to join in the fun.  We're still battling a bit with the long distance traveling thing though, so I'm strongly considering changing our plans to run the Edinburgh Half to something a little (or a lot) closer to home.  No use in punishing ourselves with a nightmare of a super long trip before we're all ready for it.  Baby steps.

Three countries down, a gazillion to go...

2.  Complete an obstacle race.  I've been wanting to do this for a long, long time!  I even entered one in 2012, but sadly the race got cancelled and all race monies refunded a month or two before race day.  It appears, however, that the whole obstacle racing phenomenon is finally in South Africa to stay, with a number of races scheduled for 2013.  Can't wait!

3.  Complete a triathlon.  After a bit of a running slump towards the end of 2012, I started spending more time swimming and cycling - and loving it!  Completing a triathlon has been on my bucket list since school days - I really hope that 2013 will be the year!

4.  Set a new half marathon PB.  I'm also really, really hoping that what they're saying about women running faster after giving birth is true...  I guess I'll find out in 2013 :).

Wishing you all a blessed, fit and healthy 2013!
