2013 Top Books of The Year
By The Modern Mrs. on January 05, 2014
Every Christmas I fill out this Christmas journal that my mother-in-law purchased for me several years back. Its a wonderful time that I look back on the year past, capture the Christmas season in pictures and memories, as well as look forward into hopes for the new year.
Every year I find myself reflecting on several books that have shaped me through the months. Today I’m sharing with you some of the Top Books I read in 2013 that I think should absolutely make your Wish List, Read List!
Jesus Feminist by Sarah Bessey was a recent book that came out this Fall. This book truly opened my heart to be okay with being both a Christian believer as well as a Feminist. This book showed me more clearly the heart of Jesus and the example He set of leading a life that fought for justice and equality for both sexes. I highly recommend this book! You can read more about it here.
One of my very favorite Christmas gifts came in late November. My parents gave me The Greatest Gift by Ann Voskamp. This was one of my favorite memories of this Christmas as each day Voskamp offers meditative portions of the season of Advent and reflecting on the greatest gift we have in Christ. This book will absolutely be something I’m gifting next year.
I didn’t discover any of these Design books this year, but rather re-enjoyed them! Every year I find myself flipping through these coffee table books of inspiration. You can read more about the Design Collection I cherish here.
Crazy Busy by Kevin DeYoung was one of those books that I just know I will go back and read countless times. This book focused me on the priorities in life, reminded me to slow down and gave me grace to do so. I think this book will change you for the good.
The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom is a book I read as a child capturing the life of ten Boom during German Nazi days. You can read more about it here, but this is a biography that will cause bring more and more gratitude into your spirit.
Hug your Customers by Jack Mitchell was assigned as a work study. However, this was not homework! This is one of those business books that you can fly through, but end up highlighting every other page. (every page in its entirety!)
Radical by David Platt I’ve already loaned out to a friend to read. It is a book that, much like the title, causes you to look at living a little different and a little more radically!
Finally, I think my VERY FAVORITE BOOK OF THE ENTIRE 2013 YEAR IS……
(drum roll please….)
Seven: an experimental mutiny against excess by Jen Hatmaker. I loaned this book to my mom and she and I have had some amazing conversations birthed from this reading. This book has caused me to change LOTS of things! Really and truly this book is one of those books that I know I will re-read again and again through life. You can read more about it and some of the things its done here, here and here. Yep, I kinda liked this book!
What about you? I’d love to hear what you read this past year? Or what are you wanting to read in 2014? Are you a fan of Goodreads.com?
