End of the year is the busiest time for our family: 2 birthdays, wedding anniversary, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. This year I decided to take a small break after the holidays while I was sorting through all our things, cleaning out closets and getting rid of so many unused things that we have somehow ended up with over the years. Although our house is still looking more like a disaster area it will be nice to have a fresh start with no clutter.
I hate clutter and even though we try to be pretty responsible shoppers we have still found things that will raise a question of “What were we thinking when we bought it?”.
I donated 4 huge bags and 2 boxes full of clothes, shoes and boots and I’m sure there’s still some hiding somewhere. Many of the items in that huge pile still had tags on it and for whatever reason they had been tucked away in the closets. I don’t usually do big New Years resolutions because I suck at keeping them but being even better at being responsible shopper and cutting back buying things we don’t necessary need is definitely one of my resolutions for January.
I think monthly resolutions might be a more effective way to go for me for 2014. It seems easier to have a month for something instead of making long term plans, a year sounds too harsh!
Although I will try to stick to my monthly resolutions I will also have couple big ones that will run the whole year and like always you are more than welcome to join.
I enjoyed my 2013 Reading Challenge a lot. I loved all the book recommendations I got from you and the discussions some of these books sparked. So this year I have set myself a goal of 100 books. Another interesting project I’ll be participating in is The Motherhood & Jane Austen Book Club by wonderful Gidget Goes Home. Check all the details on her page. Like most of us I’m familiar and have read many of Jane Austen’s books and seen the movies based on them but it will be interesting to re-read them to see them through the motherhood prism. It will be very interesting so make sure to grab Pride &Prejudice and join us.
Another big and quite important resolution for 2014 is to be more active and get back in shape. I have written about“What’s your Excuse?” and “Mommy Wars” and it is an important topic for me. I have never been very outdoorsy or super sporty but I do believe in healthy eating and exercise. Everybody can find an exercise that works for them: going for a run in the morning, walks after walk, working out at home with kids or hitting the gym. Who is up for a challenge? I’m not too concerned with the numbers on the scale but getting fit and being healthy. Trust me the numbers on the scale will follow!
I think 2014 will be another wonderful year for us and I’m looking forward to many new things we’ll try and see this year!
