This is the first article in an article series I’m doing around this
topic. Almost every new internet marketer gets involved with internet
marketing in a manner that creates a huge learning curve and could
empty out their wallet faster than they can earn money back in it.
This happens largely due to 9 common, yet fatal mistakes that new internet marketers make when starting their own business.
Don’t worry or shoot yourself in the foot too soon. All is not
lost! *smile* I’m sharing these with you based on personal experience
and the experience of several other seasoned marketers who have
weathered the storm and are now doing what they originally intended
when deciding to start their own internet business.
The first three fatal mistakes:
- Re-inventing the wheel
I’m guilty of this. Even though we are individuals and are taught to
express individuality in everything that we do, it’s not necessary to
try and do things your own way. It’s easy to assume that we can take
something and re-create it so that it works better, sounds better and
functions better. This can be true at times, at least once you really
know what you’re doing, and once you have experienced success.
However, when you’re a beginner at internet marketing, it’s best to
simply copy what is working for others
and do what they’re doing. Find people you trust, who you can listen
to and can learn from. Look at what is working for them, and only
change it slightly to meet your needs. - Being a hermit
I’m guilty of this also. If you’ve seen my recent video I created for my MySpace
page, I even spoke about how reclusive I am. I like to stay at home.
However, in any industry, it benefits you to connect with and meet
people who are doing the same thing and being successful at it.
Sometimes you may need to spend time on a conference call or a
tele-seminar to learn something that could be crucial for your
business. Even more beneficial could be actually getting on the phone
and trying to contact someone who could serve as a mentor for you.
Reach out and attempt to hire a coach, and try to get to seminars and
live events so that you can connect and learn. (This is something I
still need to work on myself) - Not buying products
It’s imperative that you invest in your education and learn from people
who have already done what you want to do. There are countless
programs and internet marketing systems that
are comprehensive enough to give you what you need to get started.
Look carefully at the system to see what they have to offer. Read
everything in the sales letter including income disclaimers and
possible refund policies and/or guarantees. Do your due diligence and
check out the track record of the people who you will be buying
products from. If they are reputable and have create substantial and
long-lasting success, those are people you want to learn from.
Start considering these first 3 mistakes very carefully and assess
where you may be making them in your internet marketing endeavor. The next 3 you don’t want to miss.
