March is Women's History Month. March 8 is International Women's Day. March is also March Madness, but I believe that the use of the word "madness" in a month dedicated to women is unintentional. Right?
Mad women in the attic aside, I am pretty psyched by a new campaign from the Women's Media Center to celebrate Women's History Month:
30 Women Making History
In recognition of the 30th anniversary of Women’s History Month, Women’s Media Center is profiling 30 extraordinary women making history. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to support WMC Exclusives — every dollar raised will go directly toward hiring women writers to comment on major news stories and report topics often neglected by the mainstream media. First, the idea that we can do something to create opportunities for women to write about news and other topics often ignored by the mainstream media is AWESOME. This is what feminism is all about - women empowering women, supporting one another, bringing our issues to the forefront. Totally awesome. (I'm repeating myself, I know, but it is just so damn awesome.)
I also love the idea of promoting 30 women making history. I'm really curious to see who they include on their blog over the course of the month. The initial choices have been really interesting, drawing from a diverse group of women doing awesome (!) things. I'm also curious to see how their list compares to the lists of other women. So I throw down a challenge: who are 30 women you feel are making history?
It seems like a lot to ask people to post a profile of one woman a day (I know that there is no way I can meet that goal, plus it's already a few days into the month), but I think a list of 30 women would be awesome. (Ugh, I can't stop using that word. Sorry.) I'll start with five women, then add to the list over the course of the month:

4. Shirley Rodriguez Remeneski
5. Alysa Stanton (pictured)
