365 Days to a Brand New Me! DAY 1

365 Days to a Brand New Me!

DAY ONE

OK, now I've done it!  Challenged myself to a yearlong endeavor which came to my mind while I was walking yesterday afternoon.  We had just had a heavy rain the day before and I love how everything smells and feels the day after the storm has moved on.

I'm 52 and pre-menopausal.  I've also put on 15 pounds in the last 2 years and have just decided I can't take it any longer!  I hate how I feel in my skin and how I look in my too-tight clothes.  So, was thinking that my New Years Resolution would be to get back in shape.  I was inspired by a picture I found of myself taken just 3 short years ago and I looked pretty damn good if I do say so!

So I'm walking along (I get some of my best ideas when I'm walking), and it occurs to me that not only do I want to get in shape, but I'm ready for a life make-over.  The way I look at it, I'm at the very beginning of the 2nd half of my life.  What do I want to do now?  Am I happy with how things have turned out up till now?  I've got 2 amazing and talented teenagers who I adore, but the rest of my life is pretty mediocre!  I'm a creature of habit and I spend most of my day on the computer... mostly work related, but I don't get out much.  I'm in a rut!  This isn't where I thought I'd be at this stage of my life.....so what to do about it?

I came up with an idea that if I do one new thing every day for the next year, by next New Years eve, my life will be completely different than it is today!  I'm excited by this prospect and a little nervous as well.  The "new" thing can be as simple as trying a new food, driving home a different way from work, or having a different attitude about a person or situation.  I don't need to jump out of an airplane, but the point is to consciously make choices each day that are different than what I would've chosen in my "old" life.

I encourage you to join with me if you're interested in changing your life.  It's an experiment and I would love to hear your ideas, suggestions and stories of things you've tried and how your life is changing.  As for me, I will blog every night about what my new choices for the day have been and if I'm noticing any changes along the way.

For today the most exciting thing I've accomplished was finishing the website I've been working on with my sisters.  I have to say, it's kinda fun having your own website!  The web hosting program is very inexpensive and easy to figure out if you've had any thoughts at all about creating your own space on the World Wide Web.  Also, in a few hours I'll be taking a foosball lesson from my daughter who is the family expert and she's anxious to coach me so we can take on the boys (her brother and father). Long story but my ex and I moved back in together recently out of financial necessity.... another reason for wanting a life makeover!  Definitely looking forward to having my own place again!

Happy 2010!  I have a feeling it's going to be an interesting year!!
