Over the years, I have been asked how knowing God has changed my life. There are in fact a myriad of ways, but I’d like to share with you four in particular.
First and most important of all, I am forgiven of my mistakes AND my eternal future in heaven is secure (okay, I guess that’s really two). These two things, which I have no control over, have been dealt with for me in the most amazing possible way and that’s a huge relief! I don’t have to try to “earn” my way into Heaven by being “good enough” because Jesus’ blood bridged the huge chasm between me and God perfectly. This means I also don’t live in fear anymore. So, I can say that knowing God has given me an indebtedness to Him and a peace about my future! This can be true for every single person on earth! “For God so loved the world…” you probably know the rest of John 3:16. Jesus also said in John 10:28, “I give them eternal life, and they will never die. No one can steal them out of my hand.” That’s true security!
Second, the struggles and losses that I have experienced, do not seem as overwhelming because knowing God has given me His perspective on what’s important. As a Christ follower, I now have a different purpose in life. It’s not about acquiring status or possessions or climbing the corporate ladder. Yes, I may in fact do all those things, but my focus is on living a life of integrity along my path in life that will lead others to want to know my God as well. Philippians 3:7-10; 13-14 and Heb. 12:1-2 give details.
Third, knowing God has given me boldness in my life for Him. I would be nothing without Him. I can speak up for Him because I have a relationship with Him and I am getting to know Him better and better every day. I am called to simply STAND in His truth. I Cor. 16:13-14. When those around me use his name in vain or trash talk Him, I can stand up and say “Hey, that’s my God you’re talking about!” I also know this boldness is always available to me because He is with me where ever I go, just like he was for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the days of old. That amazing story is recorded in Daniel 3:8-18.
Last, knowing God has given me confidence and contentment. I know God made me. I know God has plans for me. I know God is always with me. What more could a girl want? Psalms 139:1-16. My life verse is found in Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” Another reoccurring analogy in scripture is one of sheep knowing the voice of their shepherd. I have confidence and contentment in the voice of my Shepherd. “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27
Please know that I have by no means mastered this Christian life, in any form or fashion. I am not speaking at you rather, with you. I am a work in progress with a hope for the future that I wish to pass along to you. These are some of the personal ways knowing God has changed me and my outlook on this earthly life. This is not by any means an exhaustive list, but a strong enough one to warrant your attention. One to testify that Jesus can change a life and that knowing God is a game changer! As C.S. Lewis said, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” I pray that the eyes of your heart may open to His Spirit, so you can see that knowing God is worth the exploration, having the potential to change you and your eternity, forever. That goes for your precious children as well. Ephesians 1:18-19a
How has knowing God changed you? What is holding you back from allowing God into your life?
