5 fall closet cleanout tips

I mentioned before that we have the world's tiniest closets in our house. I tend to blame the closet size on the fact that my closets are so cramped (instead of the fact that I might have too much stuff...) Usually in the fall and spring I try to clean out a few things to make space for new items. I also try to reorganize everything, so I can actually see what I have so I am more likely to wear it.

We've all heard these tips before, but here is how I work to clean out my closets:
1.) Pull out everything and get rid of things I haven't worn in awhile. I don't follow the hard and fast rule of "if you haven't worn it in a year get rid of it." I basically give my clothes another chance to woo me into wearing them. I try to think whether I think I'll wear it this season or not. If not, I try to get rid of it but I can be stubborn with getting rid of stuff.
2.) Try on some stuff I haven't worn in awhile to see if I still like it and/or if it fits.
3.) Get rid of stuff that doesn't fit. This is really hard for me because I think "oh maybe it'll fit later." In the past 2 or 3 years, I've slowly lost about 10 to 12 pounds. I keep thinking that the weight will come back so I'm wary to get rid of my bigger stuff. I probably shouldn't encourage myself to gain weight, so I know I should get rid of the too big stuff.
4.) Put my keepers back in my closets and dresser neatly so that I can actually see them so I am more likely to wear them.
5.) Next I take the decent stuff to a local resale shop . Depending on the quality of what I'm taking, sometimes I'll get $20 to $50. Nothing awesome, but I figure that'll buy me a new top or something. After that, I donate whatever they don't take to the local Goodwill.
And you're done! Have you cleaned out your closets recently? Any tips or rules that you stick to? I also switch out my shoes too (previously talked about here) and make sure my scarves are organized too.
