5 Fun St Patrick's Day Date Ideas!

For anyone not officially Irish or over the age of 21, St Patrick’s Day can be overlooked as a holiday. However, this year it falls on a Saturday. What better inspiration for a date idea than a St. Patrick’s day themed date night?

Celebrated since the late 1700′s, St. Patrick’s Day represents the instigation of the Irish Protestant organization The Knights of St. Patrick and is considered one of the most widely celebrated saints days in the world. With celebrations held in Great Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand among others, it’s easy to get caught up in the fun.

Traditionally St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated with parades and trips to the pub. But if you don’t feel like spending March 17th that way, here are 5 stay-at-home Irish date ideas to help you celebrate this lucky day.

1. Saint Patrick’s Day is primarily a celebration of Irish culture. Why not continue the tradition by cooking up an Irish feast of corn beef and cabbage. Finish the meal off with an Irish coffee.

2. Have a celebratory drink! Known for their affinity to alcohol, there are all kinds of Irish drinks that you can enjoy (in moderation). Grab a Guinness, Bailey’s Irish Cream or Jamieson Irish Whiskey and toast the patron saint. Better yet, mix them together for an Irish car bomb! Even if that’s not your style, any green drink will do – make a green apple martini, have a glass of limeaid or enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day staple at your local McDonalds’ – a Shamrock Shake!

3. Speaking of Guinness, treat your partner with some Guinness cupcakes.

4. Often correlated with pots of gold and lucky leprechauns why not buy a lottery ticket! Maybe some of that St. Patrick Day luck will rub off on you.

5. To get in the green theme – here is an interesting recipe for green popcorn. Make some leprechaun popcorn and pop in an Irish movie. Can’t think of an Irish movie? Neither could we. But, we could think of a few blockbuster actors known for their Irish heritage. Peter O’Toole, Pierce Brosnan, Gabriel Byrne, Brendan Gleeson, Colm Meaney, Colin Farrell, Liam Neeson and Saoirse Ronan all make the cut so you’ve got plenty to choose from.
