5 Reasons Your Guests Think Your Bathroom Is Boring and Gross
If you’re like most people, you go into a panicked cleaning frenzy as soon as you know guests are coming over. However, don’t forget to tidy up the bathroom, too. You never know when one of your guests will need to use it. You don’t want a boring and gross bathroom making your guests cringe, or worse, so take a look at these five reasons your guests might be grossed out by your bathroom.
The Soap Dispenser is Almost Empty

It’s bad enough when you go to wash your hands and realize there is no soap left in the dispenser, but imagine how your guests feel. They have no idea the last time there was soap in there and they might start to wonder who is walking around without clean hands. Gross. This is a simple problem to avoid, and at the very least you should make sure there is extra soap under the sink or in an obvious place where your guests will find it. Also remember, most people prefer liquid soap over bar soap for sanitary reasons.
The Hand Towels Aren't Fresh

There’s nothing worse than going to dry your hands and finding the hand towels in your bathroom are already wet. This is gross and a major turn off to guests. Avoid this problem by simply putting out fresh hand towels when you know guests are coming over. If you’re having a large group of people over, make sure to change the towels half way through the party, too.
Another thing to consider is the condition of your towels. If they are old and fraying on the edges, this can be off-putting to guests. It’s a good idea to have special hand towels that you only put out when guests are coming over so that they always look nice and new.
There's Crud Everywhere

As bathrooms get older, they become more difficult to clean as dirt and grime builds up in the grout and corners of the room. This means that if you have an outdated bathroom, you need to take extra time to before guests come over. One thing that is really gross is the crud that builds up in the shower and around the toilet due to the caulking. Take a toothbrush and some cleaner and scrub until it looks white again. Eventually you’ll need to remove the old caulking and replace it because you will no longer be able to remove the crud and the caulking might start to crack.
It Stinks of Harsh Cleaners

You know that mildew that keeps growing on the bottom of your shower curtain and under the shower mat? Well, it smells bad, but so do the chemicals you use to clean it. If you’re constantly pulling out the bleach or other abrasive cleaners to get rid of mildew, some of your guests might become nauseated by the smell that permeates in there.
Mildew cleaners smell a lot like chlorine. To solve the problem, make sure you have enough ventilation in the bathroom. Installing a fan into the ceiling is a good solution, especially if your bathroom doesn’t have any windows that you can open. After all, you don’t want your guests holding their breath while using the John.
There's Gunk on the Mirror

The cleanliness of the mirror in your bathroom is a good indicator of the cleanliness of your entire bathroom because it is one of the first things your guests see. So, make sure you clean the bathroom mirror before guests arrive. Water spots are bad enough, but you don’t want guests thinking they are looking at popped pimples that have gotten on the mirror, or something else disgusting.
If you're limited on time and have to pick and choose what you clean before guests come over, pick the bathroom and main living areas. It's simple just to close the door to a bedroom or some place your guests don't need to go. A clean bathroom is important because that is the easiest place in your house for guests to get grossed out.
