5 Red Carpet Fashion Trends to Buy Right Now

BlogHer Original Post

From the Emmys to the Grammys, celebrities rocked some of the hottest fashion trends this awards season. When it comes to red carpet style, in my opinion there are three ways to go: classic, sexy, or daring. Celebrities have a way of inspiring everyday women to be sexy, classy, and daring, because we see their confidence as they walk, pose, walk again, and pose on the iconic red carpet.

I know some people like to say they don't follow trends but whether we like to or not, we all follow trends. It's like Miranda Priestly said in The Devil Wears Prada -- they were already chosen for us. We are justg to cool to admit it. Now that award season is winding down, I thought it would be cool to run down the top 5 red carpet trends that celebs wore and why we should buy these trends now.

Let's go!

Mint

I personally loved how Heidi Klum and Katy Perry wore various versions of mint green gowns on the red carpet. Mint is one of those colors that works well on almost all complexions. Mint also plays well with white and black.

Thigh-High Slits

Solange Knowles and Jennifer Lopez looked smoking hot in thigh high split gowns. We started seeing this trend pop up at the end of summer 2012, and now this year the trend is in full swing. You don’t have to go as high as J. Lo did, but showing a little leg is just the right touch of sass and sexiness.

Bold Floral Prints

Floral dresses aren’t usually a staple on the red carpet, but celebrities like Lucy Liu, Halle Berry, and Adele all took a daring chance and rocked some bodacious prints to the Grammys, Emmys, and Golden Globes. Retail stores have already started stocking this trend -- if you’re looking to shake things up, I say give bold floral prints a try.

The Cutout Trend

A little flash of skin never hurt anyone. The Grammys brought out a slew of chic cutout dresses. Showing a little flesh is not for the meek and mild but for the daring, the edgy -- for the woman who lives and breathes confidence. Believe it or not, you don’t have to have a super-flat stomach to rock the cutout look. Just make sure you go through some trial and error to find the right piece that works for your body. Just look how cute Kelly Osbourne looks!

Red dresses will forever be a classic. After seeing Rihanna, Claire Danes, and Jessica Chastain, I knew I had to get a piece in my closet. Pump up your wardrobe by way of a chic little red dress or a sexy little red top to wear for date night or a night on the town with the girls.
