5 Things to do the Day After Thanksgiving Instead of Shopping

Okay, I feel the boos coming my way, but hear me out here.
Why are we trampling like a heard of elephants, blindly following the masses to the stores, that would love to drag out each penny out of our wallets?
Don't get me wrong, I believe in spending money. I believe in abundance. I also believe to think on my own, and make the day after Thanksgiving a free day to do what matters to you. Really matters to you.

Here are a few ideas, I will use or have done in the past on the day after Thanksgiving:

1. Pack up some leftovers, and bring them to a lonely neighbor. Take a few minutes to talk. Make their day a little brighter.

2. Bake Christmas cookies, with your kids, or just by yourself, if you do not have any children. There is something about the scent of fresh baked cookies, that just screams Holiday season!

3. Play boardgames with your children. Come on, aren't they a better company, then screaming, pushing, shoving bargain hunters?

4. Sleep in, and cuddle with the one you love.

5. Set your goals for the coming months. Get yourself ready for what you really want out of live. You'll have plenty of time to spend the money you plan on making in the future.

Have a blessed holiday season!

As someone who would rather be boiled in a vat of turkey gravy rather than participate in the rat race that has become "Black Friday" I loved your suggestions and would like to add five more:

1. If you're lucky enough to have a fireplace, throw on a couple of logs, put on some music and curl up with that book you've been trying to read since summer vacation was over.

2. Since many of us are busy with family on Thanksgiving Day, take the opportunity to invite your friends, and their assorted leftovers, over for a post Thanksgiving Day pot-luck supper.

3. If you're single like I am, offer to babysit for someone you know spent Thanksgiving Day cleaning, cooking and hosting a whole bunch of people. That way they can have a bit of a rest.

4. If you absolutely have to shop, stay away from the malls and department stores and check out local boutiques or antique shops.

5. Have a holiday movie marathon. Put all your holiday movie DVDs in a pile and have everyone in the family pick one. Pop some popcorn, put your feet up and enjoy.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Thank you for your feedback!
The college idea is great! I will give that some thought for next year, as I know where my leftovers are going to this year already.

I love to bake, so I take advantage of every chance I get. My mother-in-law insist on making her turkey every year, and my husband is a cook, so I have to fight people to let me in there, occasionally.

Have wonderful day!

I especially like the first one - and may I add, how about making arrangements with a local college and have a leftovers dinner with some of the international students - having been one myself, I can say it can a lonely/ boring time.

For #2 though, after having been in the kitchen all day Thanksgiving, I think it would be hard to go back the next day and cook/ bake some more.
