Thanksgiving is just around the corner heralding the onslaught of holiday parties, holiday food and the obligatory holiday photos. Fall is a great time for you skin. Gone are the long, hot days of summer when mattifying products are your best friend. We welcome the shorter, cooler days and the wonderful falling back of the clock. It is the perfect time to pamper your post summer skin and get it glowing in time for the winter  holidays.  Below you will find 5 tips for getting your skin camera ready for all those holiday photos!

1. Get a Pumpkin Peel.

It's the perfect time of the year to start a series of peels on your skin. With less sun exposure, our skin will have the time it needs to rejuvenate after peeling. I like to get into the spirit of Thanksgiving by getting a pumpkin peel. Our favorite gourds happen to be the bearers of  anti-oxidant vitamins A and C, as well as Zinc. They also contain loads of  beneficial Alpha Hydroxy Acids. Many salons and spas offer pumpkin based treatments during the holidays so check with your local spa about a professional strength peel. If you prefer to treat at home, try Peter Thomas Roth's  Pumpkin Enzyme Peel, you can find it at your local Sephora!

2. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

As the weather cools down, so does our awareness of how much water we are drinking. If our body is hydrated our skin will glow. The best way to make sure you are drinking enough is to form a routine: drink a glass when you wake up, a glass with each meal, a glass in between meals, and be sure to drink before, during and after exercise. The idea is to keep yourself from becoming thirsty, as thirst is a sign of dehydration.  If you have trouble remembering to drink water, set an alarm on your cell phone and drink a glass before hitting the snooze button!

3. Adjust Your Moisturizer

If you happen to be lucky like me, you have a different skin type for each season. Spring I am glowing, Summer brings oil, Fall brings combination /dry skin and Winter is just dry. In late fall I begin adjusting my skin care regime to suit the windier cold air that is beginning to dry me out. Take note of how your skin behaves during the day, if  you usually use a light moisturizer and you are getting dry, consider getting  a richer moisturizer with hyaleuronic acid to use during the cold months. Hyaleuronic acid can hold 1000 times its weight in a water making it a great humectant for your skin. Try Ole Henrikson's Express the Truth moisturizer for a healthy dose of Esther C, Copper and of course, Hyaluronic Acid.

4. Pamper Those Hands!

The nights have become cooler and the wind is winding its way around the mountains and with that wind goes all the moisture in your hands. I usually don't notice I need to start babying my hands until my cuticles look like ridges of the Sahara desert. Since I am an Aesthetician, when my hands get dry I need deep healing without the scent of most rich hand creams. Much to my delight,

Until I was in school for skin care therapy, I thought I was crazy in thinking I had 2 skin types! For years I would switch to a very heavy moisturizer mid-winter as a reaction to the flaking and peeling. By late spring my skin turns into an oil slick and its back to Sephora for a fix. Now that I know my skin will change, I head it off at the pass!

Good luck with your winter skin! Just remember, exfoliate & hydrate!
