6 Important Voices in 3 Great Interviews on the Future of the Social Web

BlogHer Original Post

Saturday morning's keynote hit on topics surrounding the future of the social web. We're all pretty interested in that since, you know, we are the social web. The keynote broke into three parts, featuring three smart interviewers asking three smart women all the smart questions. What resulted from these segmented interviews was a rounded look at what exists now on our Internet, how we got here, and where we might be going.

First up...

Kara Swisher Interviews Melissa Barnes

Kara Swisher, Co-Executive Editor of Re/Code, interviewed Melissa Barnes, Head of Global Brands at Twitter. The two sat down and got into the nitty gritty of where Twitter is going. They hit on what works on Twitter, brands, and a bunch of things that anyone wanting to use Twitter in real ways really need to pay attention to. And really? There are some great sound bites, some great laughs, and a bunch of positive, great moments about the future of one of our favorite social tools.

This interview made me want to retweet more—and maybe adjust my following a little bit. You can follow both Kara Swisher and Melissa Barnes on Twitter for more of their wit and knowledge.

Nellie Bowles Interviews Richelle Parham

Nellie Bowles, culture and trends reporter for Re/Code, interviewed Richelle Parham, Chief Marketing Officer of eBay North America. You can't talk about the social web without talking about the undeniable force women have become in ecommerce. As many of our attendees (and those reading this who couldn't attend) work to build their own brands, discussing these topics is of great importance for the future of how brand-conscious social media users leverage their Internet spaces.

I find Richelle's points about the grassroots efforts of people like us, social media users, to drive commerce really, really interesting. I know I participate in it when I tweet a sale on my favorite running shoes. I know you do it when you share coupons. This is a very interesting time to live in, isn't it? You can follow both Nellie Bowles and Richelle Parham on Twitter for more smart commentary.

To close up our morning of powerful interviews...

Guy Kawasaki Interviews Arianna Huffington

Guy Kawasaki, author and chief evangelist for one of our conference Sponsors, Canva, interviewed Arianna Huffington, the chair, president, and Editor-in-Chief of Huffington Post. Her new book, Thrive, is out, and Guy asked her from the start, "How do you thrive?" The interview is humorous, inspiring, and one you don't want to miss.

Arianna inspires me to look at how I'm thriving in my life and redefining success in my own life. And maybe get some more sleep, because, oops? You can follow Guy Kawasaki and Arianna Huffington on Twitter.

Be sure to stop over at Hot from the Conference for more video, session notes, and photos. We'll be continuing to feature more videos over the coming days, so stay tuned.
