I blog.

I love to blog.

I blog about blogging, attempting to be a WAHM and Online Passive Income.

I started back in September 2010 but really didn't pick up and become serious until January 2011, that is when I consider my start. My journey to $38. Six months ago.

Of course I started blogging to make money. But I find myself enjoying the interaction so much I forget to do business.

Today I decided to really stick to my guns and start marketing. A PLAN! YES! But it is Friday at 5PM and my plan is still somewhere, not here.

I'll let you know if I get one...

Do you have a plan?

Do you make money blogging?

Do you blog and found that you have skills to sell? How do you sell them?

KDC- that is awesome! I forgot that a blog can be a platform for further career opportunities, especially in writing.

I know many bloggers that consult also, in social media or SEO or blog setup and running.

Thanks for the advise!

It is all confusing at first and then as you research and interact more on the internet, things start to clear up.

I was overwhelmed just 8 months ago, I know which way I am headed now. Still overwhelmed but in a good way. Ha ha.

If things still don't make sense in 3-6 months, lmk, we can work on a plan. :-)Just poke me on my blog.

Writing sponsored posts. I was torn between whether or not I was selling out to my readers. No offense to you, I haven't even done my research yet, you know way more than I do.

If I believe in a product I LOVE to spread the word of what a great find I found. So maybe sponsored posts can be in my future????

Do you ever worry your readers won't like you writing for a sponsor? I don't want to offend you but I like to do my research before I dive in. I don't get offended but some people do.

Thanks for the reminder and the advise. Definitely something I may want.

Couponing and deal sites are really fun but your competition is stiff.

You're right. You either need to put a lot of time in, life I have cuz i don't have the money. Or you can pay someone and that saves time. I only have time on my side right now, until the money comes, crossing my fingers.

Thx and good luck for the future. :-)

Christine,

I think you should stick with what you feel comfortable with. Blogging is about autonomy, a way to express who you are without anyone interrupting. And if you think trying to make money off your blog takes that away, don't do it. I wouldn't do it either.

Thanks! :-)

Nope, not alone at all. :-)

I guess, technically, you don't earn money from "blogging", you earn by "selling" which I can be bad at unless I fully back something.

You seem to know what you want and how to go about it. I think splitting the blog was a good idea. You can narrow both of them down into tighter categories for people searching.

I know, I am trying to branch out and it gets real complicated.

I'll be adding more posts here and on my blog as I go along this confusing journey.

I didn't really make a lot of money from my Mom in the City blog that I had for the last 6 years. Honestly, I never tried to do so.

Rather, I made money as a result of the blog. Although I was a generalist in my coverage, my paying niche turned out to be the city that I adore. (I have been hired for a combined total of around 4 years to be a paid NYC parenting guide/provide NY-centric content for other sites.)

That might be something that you want to keep in mind as you make blog-related financial plans. Good luck!

These are the sites I use to make money for blog posts:

SocialSpark.com
SponsoredReviews.com
ReviewMe.com

For products, try Kraft First Taste, VocalPoint, Bzzz Agent, and MyBlogSpark.

Most importantly, just write. Writing about the products you buy and love will show potential sponsors what kind of writing they can expect from you. Be yourself, be professional with your grammar, spelling and punctuation, and be honest.

Good luck!

Ruth Ann,

Thank you. Right now I need to convince the hubby this blogging and online income gig is for real. When I do that and we put aside some real $ for improving my biz, I will look you up.

I saved your site in my Evernotes and will remember when I need you.

Leigh Ann,

That seems like a good route. Building a blog and writing skills can get you in the door as someone who knows their stuff.

I learned that as you grow more opportunities open up that you never even thought of!

Good luck with your venture. :-)

Jerrilynn,

You're right, it is more than it looks like. There are so many options and people with opinions on what works and what doesn't. It's good and bad. I take advice from people I trust yet sometimes something works for them but not for me.

This blogging business is so much trial and error. I see now why people say it takes years to make a profit.

Christina,

I have heard of Business 2 blogger but never looked into it. I may have to. Income doesn't always need to be money, free stuff is nice too. :-)

Hi Allie,

I am like you and LOVE blogging. I never planned on doing it for money, but when I discovered that I could get paid for something that I love to do - it made things even more exciting!

I've been earning money blogging about interesting products & services via my sponsor SocialSpark! Sign up here: http://izea.in/rtIQ

I've posted a couple of blogs about my experiences that include a few samples of "sponsored" posts. Here's one of them: http://lifebycynthia.blogspot.com/2011/06/excessiv...

Let me know if I can answer any questions. I'm still learning but would love to share what I know so far.

Best of luck to you!

Cynthia

As a deal/couponing blog, I think there is more open opportunity to make money (I haven't personally done so yet), but I think it takes so much up front investment, that most people probably give up! LOL

I started blogging to see if I could do it, found out I love it, consider monetizing, but don't. It feels risky to me...and I really love my autonomy right now. But then I think I may have to get some other job and then I'd have to give up the blog. Many questions. No answers yet. I want someone to take my hand and lead me through it. But I don't want to pay them ;)

On this journey of blogging. I have been blogging since 2009. I never really considered blogging for money until last year. I am still trying to figure this out. I have my blogger blogs on Goggle Adsense, and I have reach a total of....TADA, $16. It has been $16 since December 2010, and they will not give it to me until a reach $100. The first blog called MDN Creates started out as a mesh of my love for making scrapbook page, cards, selling Longaberger products, and basic day to day ramblings of my life. That was January 2009 and before I found out I can have more than one blog. January 2010 is when I split the blog up, and came up with Tricia's Baskets, which was just about specials and other things related to Longaberger, while keeping the other. Then I added WordPress blogs. I will stop there.
It takes a special person to figure it out, and again I do not get this formula of earning money while blogging. I want to learn.

I would love to help you, even if it's just to help you get the process laid out on paper. No matter if your goal is to make money or get that book deal you've always dreamed of...we can help the road be a bit smoother and you can focus on doing what you love & do best..Blogging!

I do hope to make money from my writing some day but, I'm resolved that it probably won't happen from my blog directly. I plan to eventually evolve my blog into a book and pray to get published. In the mean time each blog post is a future chapter and I can try to develop a reader base while I write.
