Yikes! This number really jumped out at me when I read the article on WebMD:
http://www.webmd.com/add-adhd/news/20100720/most-kids-with-adhd-take-med...
Its comes from an online survey that Consumer Reports National Research Center did in August 2009 with 934 parents whose kids had been diagnosed with ADHD.
And of those whose kids took a RX for ADHD, 67% of parents thought it was beneficial; and 45% felt changing schools really helped.
Of the parents surveyed, 37% said a learning specialist/tutor helped and 35% said maintaining structure helped.
So what's sad about this? A couple things. First of all, stimulant meds have tons side effects. Second of all, did no one try brain training? Of the parents who took the survey, 44% said they "wished there were another way to help their children." There is! Cognitive skills training gets most kids diagnosed with ADHD off stimulant meds and they lose their label because brain training treats the root cause (weak cognitive skills), not the symptoms, of learning struggles. In ADHD, the weakest skill is attention.
Ugh! If you want to know more about what brain training can do for you, visit www.LearningRx.com and find the nearest cognitive skills training center.
