Of Advent…13 Days till the 25th of December: A Pre-Christmas Celebration

Everyone is in a hustle and a bustle with preparations for the Christmas celebration. We are planning menus, decorating trees, and setting homes aglow with tinsel and glitter and lights in profusion. And of course everyone would like the opportunity to show off their artistic handiwork. I know I do. But so do the other members of the family. However it was unanimous that our home will be the setting for Christmas Eve this year, the one to host and show off. But tonight we set out for our first pre-Christmas celebration, at our recently married daughter’s abode.

We have three children, and our middle child wanted a chance to show off her Christmas decorated little niche. Dinner and wine and a good time included. Their charming one-bedroom apartment on the 3rd floor was decked out. Their balcony was lit up, as was their little tree, clustered at the bottom with presents, and they’d done the candy canes and homemade wreaths thing. Everything was colorful and dazzling. And our daughter and her husband were the perfect hosts.

Giovanni, my American-Italian son in-law, a sports editor, impressed us with his personalized turkey meatball appetizers, which we enjoyed with a glass (okay, maybe three!) of Zinfandel. He further impressed us with his now signature macaroni & blue cheese and bacon creation that was simply rich and outrageously delicious. This was followed by a fine Prosecco cocktail of pear brandy and cranberry juice, and great music and conversation.

I was just wondering where dessert was! But this may just be Menopause talking.
