Aker: Futuristically Ancient

New York City
United States

This blog is a dialogue between the past, present and future, placed in an afrofuturist and afrosurrealist context. It explores African diasporic cultures that are often not given as much mainstream attention as well as re-examines popular diasporic cultures through the afrofuturist and afrosurrealist perspectives. Afrofuturism explores diasporic cultures through ideas from science fiction, mythology, mysticism, fantasy, historical fiction and concepts of the other, the outsider, fugitivity, alienation, weirdness/strangeness, invisibility, technology, etc. Afrosurrealism studies diasporic cultures with ideas about the visionary, dreams, the blurring of time, strangeness, absurdity and the mind.
