Almost Six Months Later and STILL Adjusting...
By The Ruby Slipper on January 11, 2013
I love that we have two beautiful daughters. The thing I am not enjoying is that Paisley still has yet to adjust to her baby sister, Pyper. I do not expect miracles, or, for her to be 100% adjusted at the almost six-month-mark. Yet, I am wondering when that "magical" moment will come and she will finally accept that Pyper is here to stay. Sorry kid, no refunds allowed this time!!
Some days are better than others. Most of the time, Paisley really has a hard time with my nursing Pyper, changing her diaper or even talking to her. She will yell at me, " NO BABY!!" Once in a blue moon, she will even hit her... not hard, but it is definitely an act of aggression that will not be tolerated. That earns her the fast-track to a time out.
I have tried to involve Paisley with the baby as much as possible. Let's face it... there are few things a two-year-old can do to help with a five month old. She does seem to occasionally enjoy feeding the baby her bottle ( read: barely holds the bottle while I help) and loves to give her the binkie here and there. That's as far as it goes.
I really hope this stage passes soon. I understand that adding another life to the family is an adjustment for all involved. I just never knew it would stay this difficult for so long. Add in sleep deprivation (I average about 3-5 hours of broken sleep per night, sometimes less) and it makes for a tired mommy.
Thank you for reading my blog post. I really need to get on here more and write. Time seems to be very limited and flying-by at lightning speed since the birth of out second (and last) baby.
