I have made a thrilling discovery. I, too, can have wavy hair.
That might not seem like a very big deal to you, but let me explain. My entire life, my hair has been straight as a pin. I've had my fair share of perms -- I did grow up in the 80's, after all -- but when not permed, my locks were straight and pretty limp.
Now that I'm older, I've played around with different haircuts that give my hair more body, and keeping it fairly short and layered makes that happen. But, still, it's STRAIGHT.
Or is it?
I recently started playing around with gels and mousses, and found that, with the right product, I could
scrunch my short 'do and get some waves (not curls, by any means, but waves). And, to get that sexy, beachy look, like Gisele Bundchen, there's something even better than mousse or gel -- Alo Sun Sea Salt Tress Texturizer.
Alo Sun was kind enough to send me a bottle to try, and ladies, I'm impressed. It doesn't make my hair super stiff and crunchy, and it doesn't give it super defined waves, but it adds hella body and has a look (and fresh, sea-salty scent) that's really reminiscent of the beach. Not content to just try it on my obstinate hair, I convinced friends with actual wavy hair to try it, and they LOVED it. Obviously, theirs ended up much wavier than mine, but it had the same slightly tousled appeal.
Sea salt in hair products isn't a brand new idea -- there are other products that contain it and aim to give you the same effect (check out Secret #4 here). But, one thing Alo Sun's Sea Salt Tress Texturizer has over the others is price
-- a bottle is just $5. It's not a huge bottle (two ounces), but most people aren't going to go with a beachy, slightly windswept look everyday, so it'll last a long time.
Plus, they have a 3 for $10 deal going on now. Compare that to, say, Bumble and bumble's surf spray, which gives you four ounces for $25. Can you say bargain?
Using it on wet hair allows more waviness to come through, while using it on dry hair gives it a more "mussed-up" look. Either way, it's great for days when you've got no time and have to get out the door without looking like you just slept on your hair. Instead, you can look like you were out catching some waves this morning and just happen to have fabulous, natural-looking, surfer-girl hair!

Also try SunSilk's "Sea Mist"
It's in their 'Waves of Envy' line. Good size bottle, and cheap!
I've got natural curl that needs a little help. This (and a little curl cream) has kept my frizzies under control without being crunchy or sticky like hairspray.
merry mishaps - playing it by ear
Ooh!
I also have pin straight hair, and have always dreamed of tousled waves...can't wait to give this a shot!
Technique?
Do tell - how do you style your hair when you use this spray? Spray it on when wet and let it air-dry? I have straight hair that is somewhat frizzy and lumpy when I let it dry on its own, but would love to get some waves!
How-to
I've used it a couple of ways. When I use it on damp hair, I scrunch it up and around (pushing it all the way to the roots for volume). If your hair is longer and/or curlier, twisting a few strands would probably give you an awesome, natural wave, but mine is a little too short for that.
When I apply it to dry hair, I do a little scrunching, but mostly I just keep messing it up so it ends up a little bit piecey and textured -- it's not as wavy this way, but it doesn't hang limp and flat. Does that help?
