And speaking of organic...

My brother is a farmer.

Up until 5 months ago, I would have told you that he would never be a farmer.  And suddenly, he is wanting my grandpa's old overalls and works shirts and jackets.

Because my grandpa was a farmer.

My brother's girlfriend has a farm.  I don't know  if they are currently, but if they aren't, they would like to become a CSA farm (Community Supported Agriculture).  They are dedicated to growing food organically.

This is great!  I'm happy they are doing what they love and are committed to.

They live with quacking ducks, car-riding pigs, full grown turkeys, and happy go lucky goats who seem to think they are a part of the family.  Which they are.  A part of the family that is.

I think in the US we have the capability and environmental resources and man power to be successful organic farmers.  And since it does tend to be healthier, as much as we can, I think we should eat organic.

However, the rest of the world doesn't have the same resources that we do.  They have parasites and bugs and severe dought and other things I can't even imagine.  Globally speaking, insecticides, fertilizers, and herbicides can be effective and useful.  They are not evil.  They are tools.

I understand that it is not ideal to be potentially putting chemicals in our bodies.

I get that.

But if it's between eating an apple with a little chemical residue (that I have the ability to wash off) or not having an apple and being hungry, I'm going to choose the apple (although if it was me, it would be a peach or grapes since apples aren't my favorite).

What do you think?
