Announcing BlogHer '10 and BlogHer Business '10

Today BlogHer is thrilled to announce the date, location and venue for BlogHer '10 and BlogHer Business '10.

Finally, after five on the West Coast and MIdwest, we are hitting the East Coast. And not just anywhere. Meet us in the Big Apple, Baby! BlogHer is hitting New York City!! And you can register now!

Can I hear a w00t?!

Here are the details:

What: BlogHer Business '10 and BlogHer '10
Dates:
BlogHer Business '10 on Thursday August 5th, 2010
BlogHer '10 on Friday and Saturday, August 6-7, 2010
Where: New York, NY
Venue: The Hilton New York (who will meet our $199 cap on hotel room rate, single and double occupancy.) Hotel registration under our group code will be available beginning August 7th, and we will blog the information as soon as it's ready.

How to register:

Go here to register for BlogHer '10.

Go here to register for BlogHer Business '10.

You'll notice something different about BlogHer '10 registration. We are, for the first time, introducing tiered pricing. As you all probably know by now, BlogHer has featured the same $99/day earlybird pricing since 2005. Even as the cost and production values and size of the conference have soared. How we do that is thanks to our much-appreciated sponsors. But it does mean that we can't always let in as many people as we want to.

We want to still keep that low, grassroots pricing for the bulk of you who attend. Those of you who do this for love and passion, but who can't tax-deduct your trip, or expense it to a company getting a lot of promotional or educational bang for their attendance buck. Those of you who meet that description, you get the Blogger Rate.

For those of you who do this for love and passion...and for a paycheck...those of you who can expense or deduct this trip, we ask you to please register for the Company Rate.

This will enable us to accommodate higher capacity right from the outset. We did get almost 300 people in off the waitlist this year, but I'm sure they all would have rather been able to buy a ticket without the wait :)

BlogHer has always been about the spirit of volunteerism, pitching in, keeping this the "conference the community built", even in our sixth year. We know that the community will approach this experiment in tiered pricing with the same spirit.

We're excited to have such a head start on Blogher '10. We have a full year to make it bigger and better than ever!

And we hope a new bunch of East Coasters will finally be able to join us at the annual conference!

I might just be able to go on Day 2, but I'm going to decide by this weekend. Question - will attending only one day ruin the experience?

Oh this is so exciting i am pretty new to blogging myself and now am trying to convince my husband I NEED to go to BlogHer '10 lol I think i will be on the hunt for some roomies too to make the cost lower since the drive is 16 hours in itself which likely means a stop to sleep halfway there.  This will be my first one so i have no idea what to expect but have read alot of the stories and blogs about it.

Thanks, Elisa.

Reading a few of your vegan posts reminded me I should have mentioned the food in New York!

Ladies, whatever your food needs are, New York can be a paradise. If you're a vegan with a nut allergy and you keep strict kosher, chances are you'll find better options here than almost anyplace else. And you might be able to get them delivered at 1 a.m.

Check out menupages.com, yelp.com or http://nymag.com/restaurants/ to start getting your palate excited.

I'm so glad to see BlogHer is coming to my adopted hometown -- it's an amazing place, ladies, and especially for those of you who've never been, you're in for a treat.

If anyone has questions about New York, I'm happy to do what I can to help.

Some of the common ones I hear from friends:

1) Yes, New York is safe -- like any city, you should be a savvy traveler and keep an eye on your surroundings, keep your hands on your purse and electronics at all times, etc. but you shouldn't fear coming to New York.

2) Yes, New York can be expensive -- but it doesn't have to be. Tickets to Broadway shows and dinner at top restaurants can be spendy, though worth it if you appreciate them. But you can also walk in Central Park for free, catch great live music for no or minimal cover charge and eat at amazing inexpensive restaurants of all ethnicities. You don't need to drain your bank account to have a great time here.

3) No, New Yorkers aren't rude -- in fact, I've found New Yorkers to be tremendously helpful if you're lost or looking for a suggestion about a restaurant, music venue or museum. Just keep in mind that New Yorkers commute on foot so if you walk four-abreast, stop without warning in a crosswalk or stand on the left of the subway escalator, you're likely to frustrate someone trying to get somewhere. Treat New York sidewalks with the same respect you would a highway or major street back home and you'll be fine.

Looking forward to meeting you!

As a Germany-based blogger, NYC is probably as close to me as this conference is ever going to get. I've loved reading stories about past conferences, and I'm really tempted to try to make it in 2010. Giving it some serious thought...

NYC is a fabulous city. I bet the conference will do really well there.

Unfortunately, it's a bit far for me in this "season" of my life (I have an infant and a preschooler).

Here's hoping for Phoenix, L.A., or San Diego in 2011! :)

Anne-Marie:

This is an honor system, and we think most folks will know if they're in the position of being able to afford the Company rate. We are leaving it to your judgement, if you are a blogger of any kind, business bloggers and monetizing bloggers included. We do not mean to imply that anyone who is considers themselves to be pursuing blogging and social media as a career is in a position to pay the Company rate.

As I said before, though: If we see folks from Fortune 500s and big agencies etc. deciding they should sign up for the grassroots rate, we will contact them and ask them to pay the difference!

Hope this helps.

Elisa, while I understand the need for tiered pricing and like the thought behind it, it's still not totally fair for a freelancer or small business person to pay the same amount as someone from a big company like GM or Pepsi to go to BlogHer10. Maybe there needs to be additional tiers?

I am so excited.  i am a fairly new blogger and missed Blogher '09.  I promised my husband no matter where Blogher 10 would be, I would be there also.  I have snagged my pass and all I need now is sponsorship. Any offers? I wonder how my hubby and my 4 kids will do at home without me while I am gone. LOL

The registration that is open now is for the conference-only, and does not include the hotel at all.

The hotel will be ready to take reservations for our room block on August 7th, and we'll post the web site and phone number at that time.

And probably should also clarify: BlogHer has various "BlogHerships", ways to get a free conference pass...volunteering to live blog, mic wrangle, work the registration desk etc. We also did scholarships for international activist bloggers this year.

We don't, however, arrange corporate sponsorships of individual bloggers. Some bloggers have written e-books about how to accomplish that if that's what you need to attend.

I am new to the 'blog-a-sphere' and didn't make BlogHer 2009, it seems 2010 is coming to my hometown here in the big apple, how do I register since I won't be requiring the hotel? Is there a separate registration section for us NYC based bloggers? what is the rate if you don't require a hotel?

Should I start posting for a sponsor already/now???

So much to learn, so little time! :-)

The sponsor thing has me raising my eyebrows... I didn't get to go this year.. is that a new development?  I've never heard of such a thing!

I'll have no problem raising the $ eventually, I'm just worried about the tickets selling out before I have a chance to get them!  LOL!

Fucking bravo.

If you can't save $50 a month over six months to cover the cost of the conference and hotel, maybe you shouldn't be going.

I thought about going this year but couldn't quite make the logistics work, but New York will definitely work for me - I'm in Boston but I'm originally from Brooklyn and a lot of my family are still in the NYC area - so I just bought my ticket!  I can't believe I am making plans for something over a year away, but I am so excited about this!

Oh girl, you nailed it.

If you take blogging seriously, you will find a way to get to NYC for this conference. And yes, it's a conference, not a bachelorette party, so it's a tax-deductible business expense. If you don't have the money lying around, you should find a way and figure it out before expecting other people to do it for you. You will track flights on yapta.com, find 3 other women to share a room with and find some small luxuries you can give up so you can put the conference ticket on your credit card and pay it off by the time next summer rolls around. If you STILL can't make it happen, THEN start coming up with ways that will bring value to your readers and potential financial supporters and pitch them. But if you think there are companies who are going to want to send you a fat check just because you ask, you're one of the entitled mommy bloggers giving everyone else a bad name.

I've just gotten home from my 4th BlogHer event and, of course, wanted to get the details about the next one in 2010. So color me shocked that on the very post announcing the venue and dates there are several women already asking for sponsors.

I'm in education. Comparatively speaking, this is an affordable conference. In fact, if you're in marketing or advertising where conferences go anywhere from $1500 on up (as I've learned from my sister) and, yes, I can appreciate that women who want to attend are from varied income levels.

But there is an entire YEAR before this conference. It's July of 2009 and the conference is in August of 2010. In the time it could take for one to start asking for a sponsor to pay for them to attend this conference couldn't one create a savings account and start to put away for this? Is it too much to ask that people make plans for this a year out?

All this sponsor-begging has worn me out this year. If we want to be taken seriously and write well, let's be professional. Please.
