It's true.
This week BlogHer Co-Founder Elisa Camahort announced the Community Keynote selections for BlogHer '08 in San Francisco, and we're certainly not going to allow our Second Life attendees to just "watch" all the fun.
The Second Life version of this year's BlogHer conference will participate in the First Ever "Community Keynote" event.
Elisa writes,
"That's right: the closing keynote for Day One of the conference will be live blog readings from the BlogHer community itself. You'll submit your favorite posts, and we'll get 20 of you at the microphone sharing that favorite post with the entire BlogHer crowd. We thought of calling it BlogHerpalooza, the BlogHer Slam, BlogHer Open Mic or some other such name. But it's a keynote and it will be built from the community, hence: The BlogHer Community Keynote."
The only twist on the Second Life version? The first 20 to leave a comment and a link to their blog post are in, pending our review of your submission.
This means your virtual self gets to stand, or fly, or hover in a space craft, in front of the BlogHer in Second Life audience while you read your blog post. It can be Second Life related or NONSecond Life related. It can be your favorite rant, favorite song you sang in a post, favorite post about nothing. This keynote is entirely contructed BY the BlogHer in Second Life community, so the choice is yours.
Elisa continues,
"the basics are:
Did it make us laugh?
Did it make us cry?
Did it make nod our head in an "I've been there" kind of way?
Did it make us want to send the link to a bunch of other people to share the bloggy goodness?
Is it fresh, unique...in other words, could it only have come from you?"
Make sure you are a REGISTERED participant for this year's BlogHer in Second Life conference and HAVE AT IT!
The first 20 comments in THIS post will get to participate in this FIRST EVER event!

This one is very relevant and important to spread, me thinks.
Also, I'm "Duchess Voom" in Second Life if anyone needs any help getting started in-world.

Melting Real Life Divisions and Boundaries in
Second Life
I'm submitting "Womens Center" in My Life as an Avatar.
I would of course delete/omit the call for sponsors. But everything else stays! SL provides opportunities for networking, brainstorming, and a buh-zillion other things on a global scale that are absolutely amazing and hope-infusing. My island of course isn't the only SL home for this sort of inspiring network. That is the greatest thing about Virtual Worlds. Everywhere an avie turns are joyous possibilities for doing great things.
Okay women, let's band together and save the world!

Ambient Advertising that's Shaping Youth
Since media and marketing's impact on kids is where my passionista side takes shape...even in avatar form, I'm going to submit my very first Shaping Youth post about ethics in advertising (or lack thereof) when it comes to surround sound/ambient media that can't be 'turned off.'
http://www.shapingyouth.org/blog/?p=28
As kids are catapulted into the body image blast zone, eww-gross nightmarish visuals of billboards, or 'mommy why are her legs spread like that' coffee-spewing queries in the morning carpool, I decided it to take on the topic as my chapter in the Age of Conversation probono global blogger book to benefit Variety, the Children's Charity Int'l on this theme too...So, seems like a natural for BlogHer in SL! (and maybe 'artpax' island in the comments above?!) Looking forward to meeting you all...
p.s. Congrats to BlogHer for the mega-sellout! I won't be so smug next time thinking I'm "Bay Area-based so no rush, as I don't need a hotel!"
A tribute to a Second Life mentor & Friend
I would love to be part of the group keynote by reading from the entry I created on the real life passing of the ever-giving SL friend and mentor, The Sojourner.
