Announcing the Next BlogHer '14 Keynote Speaker: Actor and Activist Kerry Washington

BlogHer Original Post

Imagine me wearing a white Olivia Pope trenchcoat and a fabulous smoky eye as I deliver this awesome news: Kerry Washington, actor, activist, style icon, and mom-to-be, will be joining us at BlogHer '14 to talk about her work, her causes, and the power of her social platform to amplify both.

BlogHer '14 Keynote Speaker: Kerry Washington of Scandal!

Kerry is most widely known for her starring role in the ABC drama Scandal, created by powerhouse show runner Shonda Rhimes. Scandal is the first show in decades built around an African-American female lead, and has propelled Kerry to an Emmy nomination, a Golden Globe nomination, two NAACP Image Awards, and many other awards and accolades.

Scandal is also a show that is intensely followed and boosted by its huge fan base, primarily via social media. The #Gladiators have made "Scandal" one of the most highly socially shared shows on television, encouraging its viewers to watch in real time to get in on the action. Of course, Shonda and Kerry often get in on the hashtag action themselves, which adds to the fun and brings even more fans to the party.

Kerry also leverages her prodigious online following to talk about the causes she actively supports. Most notably, Kerry is a recipient of the NAACP President’s Award recognizing special achievement in furthering the cause of civil rights and public service, and was appointed to the President’s Committee of the Arts and Humanities in 2009.

We're thrilled to have Kerry grace our stage to talk about her work, her causes, and her (soon-to-be) motherhood, and we know that there will be more than a few #Gladiators in the audience that day!

Don't miss it, it's just one of the many amazing things you'll experience at our 10th Anniversary Conference. Early Bird pricing ends Friday, so register now to see Kerry, along with our previously announced keynoters Jenny Lawson, Tig Notaro, the 10x10 presenters, and the Voices of the Year.
