Announcing our BlogHer '11 Lunchtime Keynote: PepsiCo CEO and Chairman Indra Nooyi
Last week BlogHer was proud to announce that PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi would be our lunchtime keynote on day two of BlogHer '11, next week in San Diego.
Three years ago I attended Maria Shriver's Women's Conference in Long Beach and was unexpectedly captivated by the morning keynote: Journalist Campbell Brown interviewing former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi.
I was not surprised that both women were accomplished and impressive. After all, Nooyi was named the #1 most powerful woman in business by Fortune Magazine for 5 years running (2006-2010)!
But I was surprised at how warm, relatable and inspiring they were. When Nooyi spoke about raising kids and the inevitable need to make choices between her work life and personal life, she sounded like any other woman talking about that dreaded B-word: Balance. When she talked about finding inspiration and fulfillment from her career, I couldn't help but relate...being so inspired and fulfilled by my own. And this despite it being hard to imagine two companies more different than the multi-billion dollar PepsiCo and the scrappy start-up BlogHer!
At a conference for something like 20,000 people there was literally zero opportunity for interacting or engaging with the audience, and I found myself wanting more. Ever since then, we've planned to host Ms. Nooyi on our BlogHer stage, and 2011 is the year when the stars (and schedules) aligned for us to do so.
Former CNN correspondent and current Huffington Post and Bloomberg Television contributor Willow Bay will sit down for a one-on-one conversation with Nooyi, and in addition to her own questions, she'll be taking questions both from our audience and from those of you who cannot attend. We invite you to leave your questions for Indra Nooyi in the comments here.
Whether you're curious about her experience coming to the United States and pursuing both education and the American Dream; her rise up the corporate ladder to a level rare for women even to this day; whether being the Most Powerful Woman in Business matters to a teenager daughter; how she measures PepsiCo's success as a business trying to be both high-growth and more sustainable; how she stays motivated and inspired after already achieving so much; or what it's like to be name-checked by a character on Gossip Girl, leave your questions in the comments or bring them to the ballroom on Saturday August 6th at 12PM.
We will be transcribing and video-recording this session, so if you cannot attend in person we hope you will return to the BlogHer 11 Virtual Conference section after the conference and re-live the conversation. The video will also be available at PepsiCo's Women's Inspiration Network site.
