My favorite three were the Spinach Artichoke Dip, the Queso Blanco and — the table’s absolute favorite — Chicken Wonton Tacos. Honestly, the next time I make it to Applebee’s, I think I might order that as a meal. They were so delicious that we had to pass around the last one, taking bites, because we couldn’t agree on whoever got the last one. Amazing....more
On my drive home, I felt energized and refreshed. I called Brian to thank him and tell him how nice it was to spend some time with friends. These ladies know how to lift me up. They make me feel beautiful and smart. Encouragement that we all need....more
The other day was not a good one. It started with the upstairs shower leaking into our kitchen; a deep pool of water on the counter kicked off the day. After that I found a container of watermelon that had been left out all night *shudder*; then we received a giant bill from my son’s cardiologist and rounded out the day with sewage coming up the drain of our basement utility sink. Oh, joy. After all of that, let me tell you what I didn’t want to do: MAKE DINNER. What I wanted to do was run away from my house of horrors and go get a drink! And that’s exactly what I did....more
The vibe was great; the bar area had a mix of men and women of all ages, smiling, socializing and clearly enjoying their night out. It didn't take long to decide where to start with the menu. Applebees has great drinks, and I love that I can get a giant sized drink for less than the cost of a tiny drink in a nightclub....more
I needed a night out! I gathered some friends, Dana and Shelly, and sister-in-laws, Stacy and Jennie. Between the 5 of us we have 12 children and full, demanding lives...we could all use a Girls' Night Out!...more
Applebee's has a pretty relaxed and low-key environment, and you get so much food for your dolla (ahem, I mean dollar...), which is exactly what we were looking for. Not to mention, they have so many drinks to chose from on their menu. When we went it was really nice because we pretty much had the whole bar area to ourselves, and we didn't feel too crowded....more
The place was so great. The bartenders were hilarious and totally personable, and the food and drinks were delicious. How can you go wrong with a big, cold glass of Blue Moon?! It was so nice to catch up with my mom, mother-in-law, and sister. Even though we are all family, they are also some of my best friends....more
This last week a girls' night out was just what the doctor ordered. There is something to be said about being with some good friends with no (kid) distractions and eating/drinking the night away. My partner in crime (C) had the flu (BOO!) but I was able to drown my sorrows in a giant OREO shake. Which is obviously the first thing I ordered....more
I spend much too much time emailing and not enough time looking at the women who fill my world. A quick text, an update on Facebook, an e-card for a birthday or a heartfelt but still one-step-removed-from-a-real-hug get well card...they are useful and convenient and keep the flames of a relationship on simmer. But for a real dose, to reinforce all the reasons I love them in the first place, I felt the need for Girls' Night Out....more
It was great to see her when neither of us was in crisis. We laughed with the wait staff, took our time, perused the menu so many times I’ve got it memorized (they have light fare, super-tasty sliders, steaks, and pasta — something for every appetite and every diet), and relished not having to be anywhere or do anything. It was a little like summer vacation for grownups, except much too short....more
