With Steve Jobs' introduction today of the Apple Tablet computer they're calling the iPad, everyone's oohing, aahing, and/or cracking feminine hygiene jokes on Twitter. Jezebel's rounded up the best of the maxi-humor.

What do you think?

PS: And all of a sudden this MADTV skit from 2006 is a lot more funny:

This device has certainly been the focus of jokes when it launched but now it has proven to be a really, really good device for us women. I have recently been using mine for puzzle games. If you have tried Bejeweled or Tetris, you would really be interested to try out StarFaces. Certainly one of the best iPad app. I had
played this game on my iphone for a while and now I have it for ipad
and its great! Love the photos option

and I have to say I do want one.  I will probably wait until the 2nd generation comes out, though.  I got the first generation iTouch, and while I do still love it, it is nowhere near as cool as the ones my kids just got for Christmas.  Also, I do think there is a market for it.  It's in the same price range as a netbook, but is an Apple product.  My kids wanted netbooks but we refuse to go backwards and purchase another PC product.  And as middle schoolers (or high schoolers, either, to be honest), I'm not spending $3000 for two MacBooks.  But they could save up their birthday & Christmas money and get a 2nd generation and I'm sure they will!  Daughter says she'll never be able to save up for a MacBook before she graduates from high school (when we'll buy her one for college).

However, the name is stupid.  What was wrong with the iSlate or iTablet?  iPad is just horrible.

still had Apple stock, and didn'thave to sell it to pay for my son's delivery. I am so glad this is an amusement, it only adds to the marketing.

If you want something portable, the ipod is available.  If you want a bigger screen and better typing abilities, a small macbook should serve.  I can't figure out who needs this!

When my husband told me that an iPad had just been released, I said "an iPAD?  You're kidding, right?  It sounds like a feminine product!"  And that was completely unprompted - I had no idea that such a thing was even in the works.

Like someone else said, clearly there were no women on this marketing team.

I'm an extreme MacHead, but I can't imagine buying this even if I had money for it in my budget. It's a bigger version of an iTouch. Who is the prospective user whose needs would be met by this thing? I'm completely perplexed. And the name is still hilarious to me. iPad. Bwahhaha!

Let's make a list: Other tech launches with such a gendered response?

I'm trying to think of one and am drawing a blank.

What am I forgetting?

My understanding is that there are two types - one with 3G (data), one without, but both have wifi.

I'm still trying to figure out if you can buy an iPad (gah, I cannot get over that name) and use it with your existing home Internet connection, or if you need to buy a data package to take full advantage of its features (like the iPhone). Does anyone know?

This seems to be an object lesson in why your development and marketing teams should be diverse. Even one woman in the room with the power to say "WTF?" would have meant a better name. Some days I think we have come a long way. Others, not so much.

Thanks for posting this new video -- wouldn't have wanted to miss that!

The first I'd even heard of the thing was via an ITampon joke on Twitter.  I bet a lot of people have heard of it that wouldn't have if it weren't for all the jokes.  How many millions of dollars of free publicity is the product getting via people making fun of it's name I wonder?

(Mad TV mocked the iPod as the "iPad" years ago! Guess Steve Jobs didn't catch the clip.)
