"Are all calories created equal"?

This article is the second in a series of four and covers an issue that has created long-standing health complications for us physically, mentally and even spiritually -- obesity rates in this country. There are so many differing opinions about this issue from physicians, dieticians, nurses and every day folks like you and me. Do you remember your mother or grandmother ever saying: "you can eat everything, but eat in moderation" I suppose that has gone out the window. There seems to be no self control now-a-days and understandably it is difficult at times to pass up foods that are laden with extra fat and sugar -- especially around the holidays. But, is that a reason to throw everything out the window? I won't say that skipping every holiday goodie that comes your way is the answer either -- that's just not realistic! But, what about putting a limit on the goodies you eat? Why not eat a limit of 4 or 5 cookies if you're going to have them instead of a dozen? or what about skipping the "grande" egg nog latte and going small? The thing is -- we do eat way too much.
