Are There Any Women Music Bloggers Out There?

Blogher member kperfetto asks this very important question.  And I'm happy to answer that yes indeed our very own BlogHer blogroll shows that there are.

So, in alphabetical order, allow me to provide you a sampler of the fine and fabulous music blogs on the Blogher blogroll...

ardenstreet is the blog "where music is your boyfriend" and where Connie has categories like "funny" "geeks" and "happy" so how can you resist.  And you'll never be able to resist once you visit and watch the ukulele rendition from a "mop-headed indie gal" of Britney Spears' "Toxic."

Amy runs the site Collected Sounds: A Guide to Women in Music where she has reviews, videos, business news and opinions and ramblings about a wide range of musical styles.

i rock i roll (a weblog) comes from a "20 something girl living in NYC, writes about music and other assorted stuff, originally from chicago, likes vodka tonics and the rapture. i'm not a music journalist, just a fan & also a dj"

The Improper Bostonian documents her Robbie Williams Journey noting such Robbie Williams news and observations as:

Wow, Robbie Williams records may have been flopping of recent, but his talent for grabbing hot women doesn’t seem to be faltering.

The Cocoa Lounge has been "paying tribute to beautiful black women in arts & entertainment" since 2000.  This fantastic, wide ranging site covers a great deal of musical ground from the (wonderfully) ridiculous - revisiting the awesome 80's hit "The Men All Pause" by Klymaxx - to the sublime - reminding us "Sassy Sarah Vaughn: Still Shining 60 Years Later"

And the final stop on our tour is the cleverly-named The Rich Girls Are Weeping which "is curated by super best friends Cindy Hotpoint & Pinkie Von Bloom."  What you'll find at their blog is:

Almost all of the content contained herein is dependent the vagaries of your hostess' weird tastes and whatever they're really into these days.

Check out a sample of their reviewing chops... for the recent release Our Love To Admire by Interpol rather than posting poor quality leaked samples in advance of the official release, instead they prepared a three part primer to the band's influences (including the aforementioned Sarah Vaughn).  Genius!  Part 1, part 2, part 3.

So who is your favorite woman music blogger? Add her in the comments!

Last FM is on my long list of places I need to spend some time checking out and learning so I didn't know that they had bloggers. It looks like a good way to learn about artists and music you might not be aware of.

Another place I've found a couple is Last FM. They have a music bloggers ( http://www.last.fm/group/Music+Bloggers ) group and there are a number of women music bloggers there.

There is a lot going on over there - I'm going to have to spend some time digging in!

And I immediately thought of you when I saw that clip. Pretty brilliant, eh?

Thanks for your question since it spurred me to get this post up which I had brewing for awhile.

And Five Dollar Radio looks good! You're off to a solid start (thanks for the Joy Division video - always good to see) and I'll look forward to watching you evolve.

I went through the blog rolls over the weekend and found Collective Sounds and ardenstreet as well as Copy, Right? ( http://copycommaright.blogspot.com/ ) (which I had forgotten about until I cleaned up my newsreader -- D'oh!)

There were a few more I liked but unfortunately hadn't been updated in a while.

I went ahead and started one (oh the beauty of free blog hosts), Five Dollar Radio ( http://fivedollarradio.blogspot.com/ ). I've only three or four posts on it so far, but I hope I'll be motivated enough to keep this one up, even if I don't post MP3s.

I love Christine's blog and yes, she was wonderful at BlogHer. I didn't include her just because the blog is less about music than about life as you eloquently put it but I heartily agree in recommending everyone check it out.

Hi Maria,

Christine Kane ( http://christinekane.com/ ) attended and gave a gorgeous performance at BlogHer ( http://www.elise.com/weblog/archives/005270christi... ) in Chicago. Her blog is here ( http://christinekane.com/blog ). Less about music than about the life of a musician, but interesting nonetheless.
