Are you Prideful?
By misswanda on April 13, 2014
It has become obvious to me that God is working on us as Christians. Last week Pastor James spoke about obedience and this week his sermon topic was about pride. I have said before here that I believe we are in the end times and that Jesus is coming soon! We need to be ready and I think God is working through his pastors and prophets to help us be ready and to make sure we leave no one behind!! I know that Pastor James is listening to the Holy Spirit and making sure we understand what it is God is wanting us to hear and not scaring us with the message.
Tonight’s message on pride sort of hit home- a little bit. I would not really consider myself “prideful”- I have learned the lessons of it's okay and silly to not – ask for help. Help with groceries if needed or someone to listen when needed. When you are a single mom and the grocery money has to get spent on utilities or extra gas for the car because for whatever reason you had extra trips to and from something – there is no reason for your child/children to not be able to eat. There are churches and other organizations that their whole purpose is to help. Now don't get me wrong I understand there might be hoops to jump through or there are other things that are needed to be done to get the help that is needed. But I learned that to make sure my son had what he needed I learned it was prideful for me to not reach out And along with that I was making it hard for others to do what God had called them to do -to be a blessing to others! I am really not judging – this would be between you and God -I can only tell you what I have experienced. And I believe that I was wrong when I did not seek help when I should have. Being prideful kept me from looking out for help because what would everyone thing! I mean really!!
The part I feel that hit me closest to home was when He talked about how during praise and worship we won't “let her rip” as they say. We won't get up and raise our hands or clap along with the beat because we don't want to have people think we are a nut job! Now I understand there are some beliefs that the only kind of music that belongs in the church comes from the hymnal. That is fine- however The Glory Refuge Church where I attend is happiest with the Christian Contemporary music that is popular and find that the sweetest time of Praise and Worship comes from that kind of music. I know that I can feel the presence of God when we have our time on Friday evening before dinner and the classes and as well as Saturday evening to get us ready for the message that evening.
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble”.
Here is what I have learned. When we hold back- whether it be because we do not like or think the music is appropriate. Or we are worried about what other people think about what we are doing- we are missing the whole reason for the Praise and Worship. We are there to Praise our Father! To thank him for what he did for us and is doing for us in our lives! It is hard to praise someone when we are all closed up inside and afraid.
So I invite you – no I am really serious here so I am going to double dog dare you!! And if you are from the South you know that no one can pass up a double dog dare~ Let her Rip! Next time you are in church and you have entered into Praise and Worship – let God know how much you thank him for what he has done. Let him know you love him and are grateful for his grace and mercy!! Don't worry about what everyone else is doing or if they are even paying attention to you – do what you feel -raise your hands – clap with the beat -sing out!!!
I am praying for you!
