The Autism Chronicles

If you know me then you know that I am more than a tarot enthusiast.  I am a mom to a little boy who falls somewhere on the autism spectrum.  The fireman, as I call him, is an amazing 5 year old with a photographic memory, a charming smile and goofy spirit, a compassionate streak that rivals any monk I’ve ever met (I suppose, not that I’ve ever met any monks…) and some quirky developmental disorders that make him extremely sensitive to outside stimulus.

Raising the fireman has taught my partner and I a lot about ourselves and how we relate to the world around us.  We are not the same people that we once were.  We’ve fought an uphill battle to get our son the kind of care that he needs and deserves, and as such, the fireman has made leaps and bounds in his treatments and growth.

I have written about our trials and tribulations (and the good times) in several posts throughout this site.  I’m no expert on autism, but I’m learning everything that I can to give my child the best shot possible.  If you are in a similar situation, I encourage you to reach out and keep demanding help.  I have some great resources if you ever need help figuring out which direction to go in next.

And if you just want to read about our journey with autism, here’s a great place to start…
