Autumn Obsessed

The time has come to put away the flip flops and don the boots.  Trade t-shirts for fleece.  Feel the crunch of leaves under your feet.  Use the fireplace for the first time, put a pot of chili on the stove, pick pumpkins, bake apple pie, go for a hayride...you get the idea. Things that top our Fall Fun list this weekend:

SATURDAY

Old Fashioned Harvest Market  - in Underhill begins at 9:00 am with a parade and includes children's games, a pet show, music, a flea market, fresh pressed cider, baked goods, maple cotton candy, pizza, as well as the Cookie Factory (cookies, brownies, and whoopee pies!)

Stowe Oktoberfest  - From oompah bands to authentic German foods, pumpkin and face painting and even a kinderplatz for kids. The parade begins at 10:00 am.

Youth Bird Monitoring Walk  - earlier risers can head to the North Branch Nature Center to spot some passing migrants, lingering breeders and overwintering birds.

Centennial Saturday - Take in the beautiful fall foliage with state foresters as they guide you through our state parks! Fun hike and activities for families. Begins at 10:00am.

FREE Museum Day - Take advantage of this one day freebie so you can go to places like The Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium, the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, Shelburne Museum and more for FREE!

Fall Harvest Festival in Hinesburg - Farmer's Market, kids activities, art show.  Wrap up the day with a Harvest Supper.

Bristol Harvest Festival - Pony rides, games, kids' area, farmer's market, & crafts. Also the "Taste of Bristol" with food from the Bobcat Café, Cubbers Restaurant, Mountain Greens Market, Rockydale Pizza, Snap's Restaurant, and Wokky's Chinese Restaurant.

SUNDAY

Pie Fest and Cider House Run at Shelburne Orchards - Did your kids pick one too many apples?  Here's an idea, bake a pie and enter into this contest to win $200 (must pre-register). While you are there you can look for the wooden apple.  Part of the Apples to iPod contest.

Touch-a-Truck & Pet-a-Pony  - Beginning at 10:00am out in Morrisville, kids can get up close and personal with their favorite vehicles. Police and fire trucks, dozers, motorcycles and race cars as well as ponies.

Burlington Book Festival - Sunday is the Children's Literature Celebration. Between 10:00 - 4:30 meet children's authors

Autumn season is mostly exciting because of this fun stuffs organized in Vermont. Here's a little trivia for you people – ever wondered what the smallest state capital is? The smallest state capital is Montpelier, Vermont. It has an area of 10 square miles and a population of just over 8,000. The nearest national capital in size is St. George's, capital of Grenada, with a population of about 7,700. The largest state capital, by comparison is Phoenix, Arizona, which has a population of about over 5 million. The town was settled in the late 18th century, and incorporated as a city in 1895, though it previously had been an unincorporated township for over 100 years. (It means a town is there, but doesn't have the right paperwork.) However, the smallest state capital is a full service town – in a region perhaps worth payday loans ( http://personalmoneystore.com/Payday-Loans/ ) to go see.
