Baby Leggings Lovers BEWARE

I know you've seen those adorable baby leggings somewhere by now.  I'm sure you've stumbled across a picture of a chunky, sweet little baby crawling in their sweet little fashion statement.  Plus, there's the convenience factor, right?  Slip 'em on, no rug burn/pants to pull on and off for diaper changes/added warmth when it gets chilly/etc.

I fell prey to the baby legging fever a few weeks ago.  Baby L is finally old enough to be crawling, and I fnally felt justified to buy a pair.  I felt a small sting at the $11 price tag (Um, I can get regular socks for $1!), but convinced myself that she would be wearing them all the time and it would be so worth it.  I even picked out a great color to match everything.

So, I happily brought home my very versatile, absolutely adorable, must-have baby accessory.  After slipping them on her, I fell in love with them all over again.  I wish I could get away with some thick knit leggings, but alas, it is crazy hot here and I'm not planning on reverting to crawling anytime soon.  Plus, I don't think anyone would be crazy about me rocking the diaper look...but anywho...

My darling daughter fell asleep on the floor after an hour or so of playtime.  I laid her down in her crib and went about my morning with the boys, doing school, snack, playtime, whatever it was.  When I went in to check on Baby L, her feet were PURPLE!  Those must have baby leggings were cutting off her circulation to her feet!  And she'd been in them for a little under two hours, maybe?  I'm thinking two elastic bands (thigh and ankle) is just too much for a baby, when their circulation is not all that great anyway?

Caveat Emptor...there's $11 dollars I'm never going to get back.  Anyone want a pair of baby leggings?  Maybe they'll make a nice soda cosi.

You know, as soon as I bought these and got home, I started thinking I should have just made some myself. I am always at my sewing machine. I guess I got sucked in by the cuteness. :) I think the elastic is just too tight in the ones I bought. And yes, my baby is pretty healthy, and chunky. I figured though if they are supposed to fit up to 2 years old they should work. I guess that's what I get for thinking. :) Thanks for the tip though from a few of you...I think I will attempt a couple pairs (for much cheaper) from my sewing machine!

I recently bought a pair as well, so this post is quite timely for me! I remember the first time I put them on her, I actually had a thought about her circulation and if they would be a problem. She's only worn them a couple times, and not for very long, but no problems so far.

I used them with my older son until he was around 4 (great for extra layers under snowpants/sweatpants/etc in the winter and my younger son still has a few pair. We never had a Purple Foot incident. Our older son was a chunky monkey and our younger son is a very thin child, but neither had an issue.

save them for when she is older and her legs are less chunky. my boy is 4.5 and he still wears his! I STILL love bay legs! although it is perfectly possible just just buy a pair of $1 socks and cut off the foot part and use the tube as baby leggings you could hand sew in some gentle elastic if they need it at the bottom.

Weird. I LOVE Baby Legs and have never had this issue at all.

Actually...as much as I love how adorable they are, we stopped using them for this very reason. I've found several other brands that are different, but we don't use baby legs anymore. I've thought it's so odd how they advertise their product on bigger kids - because they barely fit my 2 year old's skinny legs without cutting off her circulation and leaving angry red marks.

No but I have a slender toddler. I'm loving them again for under dress this time of year.

Interesting. I never had problems with ours. I actually had a hard time keeping them on my kids.

I think it has to do with the baby's body type, too. My little one is pretty svelte (not that she doesn't have a little chunkiness to her thighs!), and we have never had this issue. In fact, we sometimes have issues with them rolling down from the top.

I wonder if her baby was really chubby

No but my girl is pretty slender. I haze baby legs brand and Zootie and also make my own from target adult knee socks.

I only noticed how tight elastic was when my daughter wore official "baby leggings". What I do is grab funky adult socks and cut off the feet and let my daughter wear those as leg warmers {and even sleeves}.

Never had that problem, but chubby legs are relative!

Wow! As a note to the blogger, you can make your own baby legs out of socks. Tons of free tutorials all over the Internet and they might be a better fit on your baby.
