Baby Steps #2

And we're off!  So far, I'm doing very, very well on the water consumption, OK on the fruit, crappy on the veggies, and decent on the physical activity.  For the water, I've found it helps to break it down into one or two containers (in this case, it's a big honkin' jug of water from Cub).  A liter isn't that big, and 2 liters a day is about as much water as we should be drinking, minimum, no matter who you are.  Eight glasses seems like a lot.  Replacing a couple Big Gulps/large fountian drinks with water doesn't seem nearly as hard, now does it?

The fruit and veggies are quite a bit trickier.  I've found that the larger fruit cups, with 2-3 servings each, hit the spot.  It's like the process above.  By consolidating servings, is doesn't seem like that much.  It also helps if it's a type of fruit you enjoy--nobody dislikes a treat now and again, and it's like a little way to pamper yourself each day!  I'm fond of a particular kind of fruit cup... I believe it's from Dole or Del Monte.  It's a tropical blend of mango, papaya, pineapple, and something else.  It's delightful.

I flat out admit, I'm cheating on the veggies.  I went out and got a bottle of V8.  However, it's better than nothing.

The physical activity is much easier than I expected.  For me, the trick is not to focus on exercise per se, but just to get up, and get constant movement for at least 20 minutes a day.  I like to go mall walking.  I go through, window shop, look at the people, and do little more than glance because I have to keep moving.  The time just flies by!  Although I do exercise (I'm partial to weight training), it's easier to get it done if it fits seamlessly into my day.

I'm already starting to notice little changes in how I feel.  I went grocery shopping, and I'm hoping that it will only get better.

A digression: when the heck did it get LESS expensive to eat junk food?  It sucks!

ONWARD!
