BackTalk: Sex and the Mommyblogger

There is a time and place for everything: including sex talk. For years women have discussed it in secret, moved to a place where they have gotten comfortable enough with themselves to get real and personal, and finally have written about it online. While some bloggers would prefer not to write about sex I still have to confess right here and now: I love to read what they have to say about the topic.

Just because some of us create families from the sex we’re having doesn’t necessarily mean that we have to stop having that amazing sex we used to have. I grew up in a home where we didn’t always discuss sex (and, go figure! I got pregnant at 14!) but later realized that women really DO want to talk about it. We just haven’t always had the platforms on which to do so. Online, however, we are all equal.

Now that many of us are doing a majority of reading online it was only natural to see posts like this from Tanis of Redneck Mommy or this one from Melodyann from Color Me Complicated or even Loralee from Loralee’s Looney Tunes. Cecily at UPPERCASE Woman just plain gives suggestions thus helping out all parties concerned. I dare you not to learn anything from that post. The alluring Kristen Chase even has a fantastic column for parents that covers a variety of topics all related to sex and even has her own radio show to which I faithfully subscribe.

When I read these ladies and their experiences I spent most of the time nodding my head in agreement or wishing we’d had this conversation in person where I could study their faces as they told these stories.

And that’s just it. Women have stories. About sex. And if they’re going to keep writing about it then I’m going to keep reading. So join us in our next BackTalk episode where we feature some of you and your incredible stories including some that sex sometimes leads to: pregnancy!

We have five children and the stork didn't bring them. We love having sex and have an active sex life. Some people have even been brave enough to ask how we have the time. We MAKE time! Sex has and continues to be an important part of our relationship. I wish more mommy bloggers would talk about sex with their husbands or at least express they are having it on a regular basis. I would also like to see more posts by mommy bloggers about the troubles in their relationships by lack of sex, or lack of time for sex. It's just not discussed enough. I had thought for a long time we were the odd ones still doing it kid after kid, through each pregnancy and breastfeeding because so many never even breathe a hint of it.

Thanks for those links, Liz! I can't wait to read them. (See? I'm jumping about trying to read MORE about sex!)

Loralee, I'm grateful you wrote it in the first place. It was well told, funny, and a bit too familiar. We've all had that, "KNOCK FIRST" talk with the kids. When they don't listen it's their own eyeballs and therapy if they're scarred.

I had to think long and hard before writing that post (and hooo boy did I hear about it from my parents).

BUT!  I wouldn't have dared to try the experience at all if I hadn't read so many positive things about it from bloggers I respect first.

When I thought about writing about it, I hesitated but then thought, "I get a lot of my best ideas and expereinces from the internet, so why exclude sex or things related to it from the list of what I talk about?"

So, I did it.

I plan on talking about it more now that I've taken the plunge. It was liberating.
