Ballet-type flats that don't suck for the over 40 woman
The average woman has 30 pairs of shoes, according to the book Fashion 101, A Crash Coarse in Clothing by Erika Stalder. Boy am I behind the times. I have a whopping total of 7 pairs of shoes/boots that I regularly wear. New Balance white walking shoes, North Face waterproof hiking shoes, bogs gardening shoes and bogs gardening boots. I also have 2 pairs of shoes that never go outside: the purple foam crocks used as house slippers, and the black yoga-type Beech sandals with the toe separators for after shower.
I *want* to have dressier shoes to wear with my sporty tank dresses and summer skirts, but I hate heels. Or anything I can't walk 3 miles in comfortably. If I'm going to pay good money for shoes, I want to be able to be comfortable and have them be multi-use.
I recently came across and purchased some cute little Merrell ballet slipper type flats that have a diagonal strap across the instep. I wouldn't want to walk 3 miles in them, but they are really cute to wear with sporty tank dresses and summer skirts walking around the neighborhood or going out for a bite to eat. I'd say they are cute enough for women even under 40. My 19-year-old daughter wants to wear them, but I've already given her all my high-heeled shoes, so I feel justified in having this ONE pair of dressier shoes just for me.
I continue to hunt for a cute, colorful, shoe I can wear with casual dresses and maybe even dressier dresses, a shoe I would feel comfortable walking 3 miles in without getting blisters or twisting an ankle. Any ideas?
