Bats and Brats! 6th BlogHer Food '13 Friday Night Excursion!

BlogHer Original Post

Have you heard about the bats in Austin? They live under the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge, and just as Ann Richards was a force of nature, so are these bats! It's estimated that there are 750,000 to 1.5 million bats at the height of "bat season." Nope, I didn't know there was a bat season either! But that's when we'll be in Austin for BlogHer Food '13.

Around sunset, these bats take off to go get their food (insects, yum!) and with all of them in flight, it looks like a black cloud emerging from the bridge.

Our sixth no-host excursion from BlogHer Food '13 on Friday June 7 will head to see this phenomenon with Katie Burkhart, also known as the Hill Country Cook

After checking out the bat cloud (ha!), this group will head over to Frank to enjoy their signature artisan sausages -- and yes, there are vegan and gluten-free options too! Personally, I'm kind of intrigued by their "Reuben Waffle Fries" loaded with melted Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, corned beef, and thousand island dressing. Or maybe the "Joan Crawford's No Wire Hangers Fries" would be better? You decide.

There will also be live music that night at Frank, keeping the Austin vibe going!

If you are already registered to attend BlogHer Food '13, keep your email box open for instructions as to how to sign up for this excursion or one of the others. And if you haven't registered yet, you can do so here!
