Battling Your Arch Enemy and Other Tips to Frame Your Face

I love to experiment with different cuts and hairstyles. In fact, I've sported everything from below the shoulder locks to a short and spunky hairdo. I am finally giving my hair a rest and am more interested in changing the focus to my face. Can you offer any simple tips on how to create look that will show-off my features?
Creating a look can be as simple as enhancing your brow with the right arch or experimenting with different liners. Read on for easy tips for creating a simple look that frame your face.

I have to be honest, I’m often lazy with my makeup routine. There are times when I just don’t want to be bothered. There are also times when I only have four minutes until I have to leave the house. On these days, I fill in my brows and throw on a bit of liner and mascara. My entire look changes instantly. Framing the face can easily take your look from blah to alive!

Most of the makeup mavens I know won’t leave the house without their brows done. Understandable, as your entire face looks different with a great brow. When you do your eyebrows, focus on having a natural look. You would be surprised at the shapes people create to resemble eyebrows! (Blondes can usually use taupe.)

If you aren’t sure what shape you should have, try using eyebrow stencils. Also, here is a quick guide to shaping your brows.

a) Hold a brush along the side of your nose so it touches your brow. You’ll want it to be a straight line. This is where your brow should start.

b) Next, look straight ahead. Tilt the brush until it aligns with the end of your pupil. This is where your arch should be.

c) Again, using your handy brush, align the end of your eye with the brow. This is where your eyebrow should end.

Using eyeliner is another simple way to make you look more awake. A simple sweep of eyeliner can easily open the eye. There are several forms of eyeliner to choose from, and they come in all price ranges. The most traditional type is pencil. Be sure to invest in a decent eye-pencil sharpener -- you’d be surprised how many sharpeners will eat your pencil!

Liquid liner can create a sharp, sleek line. But be careful! An unsteady hand could lead to an uneven line. Hey, it happens to the best of us. I highly suggest practicing on your hand first or trying it without eye shadow.

Cream eyeliner is always a great option. It stays creamy for just a few seconds before it dries. I suggest using a slanted eyeliner brush. Remember, this isn’t a race! Take your time, and slowly walk the brush along the eye. Q-tips dipped in makeup remover are always an option.

If you want a softer eye look, try using eye shadow as liner. You can use a bullet-like brush to create a soft line or a flat brush for a sharper one. Make sure to pat or flick your brush to get rid of excess powder.

Use colors to brighten your eyes! Black and brown aren’t your only option! Use blues, violets and greens to really give your eyes pizzazz. For another pop, try using a shimmering ivory, gold or another color in the inner corner of the eye or right under the lower lash-line.
