A Beautiful Mess: Confessions from the Second Closet
By Kelly A. Truman on March 07, 2011
This is the manuscript she never intended to write. Borne from a story she wishes she had never lived. A Beautiful Mess: Confessions from the Second Closet begins with the original blog entry dated October 9, 2005, detailing the excitement felt over finally finding true love. It was never meant to be a novel and yet that is what it became. It was only meant to be her open love letter to her girlfriend, Christine, as they spent the first few months of their relationship living in different cities in Tennessee.
A Beautiful Mess: Confessions from the Second Closet is a journey into abuse and domestic violence inside of a lesbian relationship. The memoir brings together the hope, expectations, and simplicity of falling in love with the struggle of dealing with a beloved’s inner demons on a roller coaster ride of love, hope, promise, despair, doubt, abuse, manipulation, betrayal, hate, and ultimately the courage and strength to say enough is enough.
A Beautiful Mess: Confessions from the Second Closet takes the reader inside the belly of the beast, not from a textbook perspective, but from the perspective of the one who fell in love and tried so desperately to save a doomed relationship while suffering through countless rounds of emotional, mental, and physical abuse. It is a story---a story that started as sweet as any other love story found on bookshelves around the world. It ended up in a spiraling descent into the cycle of domestic violence.
