What's happening this week in the world of fashion? We have celebrity style from Anne Hathaway, five beauty must-haves to keep you pretty this summer, and a zippy summer trend. Plus, how to wear a miniskirt in style!
Every year I hem and haw and try to put off the inevitable, uncomfortable feat of squeezing my nearly ten-year-old bikini. I did buy another suit about five years ago, only to forget it at a hotel after wearing it only once. This year, however, I've finally made it back to my pre-baby weight (though definitely not my pre-baby body, but that's okay...peace has been made.), my husband and I are celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary and I think I'm going to buy a new swimsuit.
I'm not gonna lie--I consider myself fairly knowledgeable when it comes to beauty products, their application, and tricks related thereto. My one Achilles' heel, if you will, is liquid eyeliner, but even that, I've (sort of) figured out. And so, it is with a humble heart that I come to you today, quietly begging for help.
I read it on a friend's FB page:
Now that the plants are all in the ground - they have to be watered too! Is there no end to this project?... No we don't have automatic sprinklers - entire yard, all watered by hand. While it's better to plan watering before a project is begun, many of us run into problems with watering our landscaping during the heat of summer. Automatic systems can break, watering by hand can be inefficient. Worse, our water district may inform us of watering restrictions which mean cutting the watering to a minimum.
What's happening this week in the world of fashion? We have 10 trends under $100, a designer khaki collection at the Gap, and comfortable shoes for work. Plus, a tribute to Farrah Fawcett's life and style.
And no, I'm not talking about me. I'm talking about five beauty products people seem to have forgotten about. Your mother and grandmother used them. They're still in stores, but they tend to get stashed on the bottom shelf because they're not the hot, trendy products. Well, I'm here to tell you they're worth a second look. They're not sexy, but they're cheap and effective.
As the world goes greener (or at least talks a whole heck of a lot about going greener) I've started seeing a new infiltration of eco-cosmetic pitches in my overflowing inbox at Cool Mom Picks. There are organic moisturizers, all-natural eye shadows, cruelty-free cosmetics brushes.
My friend L had a tummy tuck this winter. She had been talking about it for years, ever since the birth of her third baby. She's a tiny little thing, but after that last pregnancy, her stomach was never flat again, and it bothered her. A lot.
This Saturday, I'm going to a casual wedding picnic/dinner reception. S. is the first one of my group of high school friends to get married, and she's insisted that we don't dress up (!). After polling the internet with a Polyvore of three possible outfit options, I think I figured out my outfit. It's the nail polish that's got me stuck now.
Here is the essence of simplifying: Sheena Matheiken is wearing the same dress every day for a year, and blogging the whole experience. She's calling the experience The Uniform Project; it's a combination of fashion challenge and social outreach.Matheiken describes her project this way:

Women have many options in the, um, "private" grooming department - from a full-out wax to doing nothing and everything in between. The mere act of grooming “down there” is controversial to some - but this post isn’t about the societal implications of your grooming choices. I see it this way: Some women pierce and tattoo their bodies and others like to keep their skin intact. Just like a having a tattoo doesn’t automatically make you a badass (hate to break it to some of you), getting a brazilian wax doesn’t make you an accessory to the pornification of America.
What's happening this week in the world of fashion? We have ideas for what you can do with $300, plus size swimwear at budget friendly prices, and the summer handbag trend that you need to know about. Plus, the rules for how to wear leggings!
