I never realized how serious a skinned knee could be until now. Last week, my little 5-year-old daughter was crossing a street along with a friend of mine when she slipped and skinned her knee.
Of course, she began crying hysterically, and it was bleeding profusely, but I wasn't worried. After all, as the mother of two, I have survived what feels like hundreds of skinned knees and scraped elbows. I washed it off with a wet paper towel and slapped on a few Band-Aids, then sent her back on her way.
I seem to be going on and on about hair, but it is such an important aspect of our appearance and, I think, a reflection of how we feel. So, here are just a few more tips and comments about hair that I think are important in the grand scheme of keeping our hair – and ourselves – looking young.
1.No razor cut around the ears, no ears cut out period. We need hair around the face to soften our overall appearance. The hair around the face should also be feathered or ‘wispy’ and uneven, rather than hacked off in a straight line....more
I've had short hair for eleven years now and I'll never try to grow it out. I don't own a hairbrush or a blow dryer but I can still manage to play around with it and have fun. Though first I feel like I should go back to 1994 when I had grand delusions of having long flowing blonde locks. Every time I got a relaxer and a haircut I'd end up with a case of whiplash from shaking my tresses around like I was in some Pantene commercial. Fortunately, I have since recovered from that particular phase. ...more
As if by clockwork, the arrival of the new year inevitably makes me get all ponder-y about Many Important Issues. And by "Many Important Issues," I do, in fact, MEAN "Many Important Issues, but also trivial nonsense that matters to literally no one else but me." To wit, that list includes sundry issues, such as war, the health care debate, Taylor Swift's confounding (to me) meteoric rise to stardom, my hair and the deplorable state of my makeup bag.I will give you ONE GUESS as to which issues my mind generally wanders. ...more
Ahh... the holidays are upon us... Images of sugar plums dancing in our heads while dreaming if Santa Claus will be providing us with treats (or a big fat lump of coal) under our Christmas trees. Who am I kidding?! That is what I want.. those images on the books I read to my son at bedtime.
